Hyundai asks aftermarket tuners to check out its 2010 Genesis Coupe
In an unusual move, Hyundai invited 20 aftermarket companies to come to its North American headquarters and take detailed measurements of its 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The session will allow the aftermarket companies to get a head start on developing performance-boosting parts for the car ahead of its debut. At the same time, Hyundai announced it will offer Track versions of both the turbo four and V6-powered cars.
Fittingly, the automakers headquarters are based in Fountain Valley, California, not too far from the majority of the aftermarket tuners. Hyundai called the exercise its official SEMA measuring session, as the annual SEMA show acts as the breeding ground for the most modified new cars in the industry.
The invited companies ranged from seat cover maker Wet Okole Hawaii to forced induction specialists HKS and Garrett-Honeywell, say Inside Line reports. The latter companies were especially interested in the base cars 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, as it is closely related to the engine in the latest rally-inspired Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. In the Genesis coupe, it makes 223 horsepower as opposed to 290, and sits longitudinally-mounted as it powers the rear wheels.
The 310 horsepower V6 will also get some attention, as Gale Banks Engineering plans to produce a supercharger for it. The four-cylinder will also get updates to its turbo and intercooler systems from the company.
The automaker also said Track versions of the coupe will be offered, offering more aggressive suspension tunes, a front strut tower brace, and Brembo brakes all around, with one-piece, four-piston calipers up front.
In addition to retuned suspension compared to the standard versions of the coupe, the Genesis Track models will pick up a front strut tower brace and a full set of Brembo brakes, including four-piston monobloc calipers up front. Both Track models will sport softer Bridgestone Potenza RE050A summer tires, sized 225/40R19 up front and 245/40R19 in back, which are lower-profile and an inch larger than the standard cars, but of the same width.
The first cars are due to arrive at dealership in February of 2009.

If the new Coupe sells for around $240k at N&M, then that Genesis will be, what, over $300k? |
