When the new Jaguar XK launched for 2007, the British automaker was adamant that it would only be available with petrol powerplants. However, a lot has changed since the XKs launch and Jaguar engineers are reportedly working on a new diesel powerplant for the XK range.
Thanks to record high gas prices and the success of the BMW 635d, Jaguar engineers are now working on a diesel mill for use in the XK.
The new powerplant is said to be a variation on Jaguars 2.7L diesel V6, which is currently used in the companys sedans. According to AutoCar, the engine will be punched out to 3.0L for duty in the XK, and will also feature a twin-turbo setup. Power has yet to be set in stone, but 250+ is expected.
It remains doubtful that the diesel XK will make it to U.S. shores, which is a shame since the two-door cat will likely return 30+ mpg.
