Pony and lap: A horse out on the gallops with the van
There has been the Mustang. And Mitsubishi has its Colt. But how about this for a one-horsepower vehicle?
This bizarre contraption may look like a 21st century-style horse-drawn carriage, but in fact it is the latest technology for racehorse training.
The car features a horse-sized stall allowing the animal to be harnessed in while the trainer sits in a spacious cabin.
The technology allows trainers to run tests on the animal and measure fitness, heart rate and oxygen uptake while adjusting the speed of the car from walking pace to galloping up to 16m/sec.
Unlike traditional carriages, this machine requires little effort from the horse, combining a Ford F150 truck chassis with a Volvo engine.
Created by British-based design company Roush, the Kurtsystems car is also suited to camel racing and is expected to be in production this year, perhaps meaning the gallops will never be the same again.
