McLaren have confirmed that Lewis Hamilton's management team are in discussions with sports clothing company Reebok about a personal sponsorship deal.
Brand Republic reported this morning that Reebok is close to agreeing to a deal that will see Hamilton become one of their ambassadors - alongside other sports stars including Thierry Henry and Andrei Shevchenko.
Although McLaren have traditionally shied away from allowing their drivers to have their own private sponsorship deals, the team have said that they been fully informed of the Reebok discussions and have no issues about the possible partnership.
A team spokesperson told autosport.com: "We can confirm that Lewis Hamilton's father and manager Anthony has been in discussions with Reebok with regard to a personal sponsorship for Lewis.
"Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has been in close contact with both Lewis and Anthony throughout these discussions.
"As a result, any marketing activity undertaken by Lewis on behalf of Reebok will be fully consistent with his existing obligations to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team, and will be run in full co-operation with Lewis's primary marketing commitments to the Team and its Partners."
