In another post I suggested IMHO, that though I never tried it personally yet...

or remove rear pinion and (lower) housing on 4wd transfer case, seal with alloy plate |
BTW this could be for any Evo 4-6 or CM5A 1800 GSR 5-speed box...
Remove the pinion and (possibly) leave the rear crown-wheel in place since I think it drives
planetary gears too...
Remove the short tail-housing from the very end of the transfer case. The last part of
housing in "blue" area (stump) only... Where drive-shaft goes in... see pic.
Note: You may have to use more oil, because of greater volume (space) after removing pinion.
Also draining oil will require you to syphon it out of "filler hole," as small tail-housing has drain-plug.
Unless of course, you just "tap" a suitable lower hole in "blank-off" plate, and use old plug.
... see pic below
Fabricate a small alloy plate the same size of the remaining flange on transfer case.
(Maybe include "drain-plug" in plate too?)
Make a cork gasket (use cork-sheet) to fit around mating surface of plate and housing...
Use gasket cement when installing plate...
That way... no rear pinion in the way... No oil-leaks... No 4wd left to worry about...
Drive still works the same way to front wheels, since all front-drive parts are still there...
Voila!... FWD Evo or GSR 5-speed gearbox...
BTW padna, you will get so much "torque steer" with a 4G63 (without front helical LSD)
that this car will be dangerous on the street.
May be better to stick to a 205hp 4G93 Turbo IMHO.
Note: You will need Evo 4 (shorter) axles for narrower track CK2.
Another alternative for the 4G93 Turbo only, is the Galant auto tranny...
It's built to work on a 4G93 GDI, and should fit (with some cross-member "clearance" mods)
in a CK2 shell...
BTW, please don't weld on the alloy transfer case... aluminium welding is "notorious" for
being "porous" and might leak (vibration etc.) Blanking plate may be a more reliable bet.
My $0.02c
Comments and added suggestions please fellas... _________________ Walk softly... and carry a BIG stick!

Okay... FINALLY!... Something that should make 4WD-to-FWD 5-speed conversion reliable.
This model is for Gen 1, 4wd boxes but they should have a model for Gen 2 drivetrains too.
......

While on the subject of pushing 280+ bhp through the front wheels only... IMHO it might
be a good idea to ADD a front helical (Evo RS) LSD to make the car more controllable. _________________ Walk softly... and carry a BIG stick! |
