Allan McNish believes that the Le Mans Series should follow the lead of the ALMS and try to entertain fans more on race weekends.
Audi plan to enter both endurance championships this year, which means they will go up against Peugeot several times this season.
McNish is looking forward to getting to race in Britain when the LMS visits Silverstone, but he thinks that the European series could learn a few lessons from the ALMS, which often draws big crowds.
"In America they create the regulations to make it competitive, while in Europe it's more about the sport," McNish said on the main stage at the Autosport International Show.
"But fans want more than just seeing a car fly by. This is a concept that America has done well but we need to do it more over here."
The ALMS features more variety than the LMS, where all of the races are 1000 kilometres long.
In America, the races vary in length, and the series often pairs up with Champ Car or the IndyCar Series to create a festival of motorsport on a given weekend.
"In America they get big crowds," McNish added, "and when people come to a race and enjoy it they come back.
"The LMS is a very developed championship now though, and Audi want a head to head with another manufacturer (in LMP1). We want that competition."
