AUTO INDUSTRY REPORT: Acura heads to China

Honda Motor Co., Japan's first automaker to produce cars in China, said it will start selling Acura-brand luxury vehicles in the country beginning in the spring of 2006, making China the second market for the brand after North America.
The Tokyo-based automaker expects to sell 3,000 Acura vehicles in the first year, it said in a statement. The company will first introduce the Acura RL luxury sedan, known as the Legend sedan in Japan.
Honda, Japan's third-largest automaker, created the Acura brand in 1986, to enter the luxury automobile market in North America.
It plans to open 10 Acura outlets in the first year in big cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the company said. Honda will increase the total number of Acura outlets to 30 in the first three years, it said. |
