A press conference in the Radisson SAS Balmoral hotel in Spa this morning revealed some news regarding the 2007 Le Mans Series season and its entries. Race director Pierre Delettre, Le Mans Series organiser Patrick Peter were at the press conference to inform the media about their plans.
First of all the Spa 1000 kilometres will be moved back to May in 2008. The race was scheduled for August this year due to the construction work going on here at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. With these constructions completed the organisers have decided to use Spa as the final race before the Le Mans 24 Hours again.
Audi will not attend the next Le Mans Series race here at Spa. Patrick Peter confirmed Audi said there will likely be an Audi at the start of a Le Mans Series race and that this will normally be the Silverstone round in September. In 2008 the German manufacturer could be in for a full season in Europe and start their fight with Peugeot on European grounds.
It was also confirmed that another Porsche RS Spyder will be running in the 2008 Le Mans Series. After the announcement that Dutch squad VM Motosport by Verschuur will enter one Porsche in the LMP2 class another team will also join the series next year with an RS Spyder. More news regarding the team will be announced in August.
