BMW Motorsport boss Mario Theissen believes that the FIA should have waited longer before trying to equalise the WTCC field, this week's Autosport reports.

SEAT, Chevrolet and Alfa Romeo were all given a 25-kilogram weight break for the second round of the season at Zandvoort after BMW dominated the first round of the season in Brazil, but Theissen was disappointed that the decision was taken so quickly.

"We have a system that works quite well - the success ballast system and sometimes I think we should be a bit more patient to let the system really come into place," he said.

SEAT and Chevrolet took a win apiece at Zandvoort last weekend, as the lead BMWs were carrying success ballast for the first time this season.

"Now we carry success ballast and I think one should be a bit more confident about this system and not interfere with it," Theissen added.

The BMW boss pointed out that he was not against the idea of creating a level playing field, but he still thinks that there should be some variation in the performance of the cars.

"I support the principle of performance narrowing, but if you are just a drivers' championship and you equalise the cars you might as well have a one-make series," he said.

BMW's Augusto Farfus currently leads the championship, although it is unlikely that any changes will be made to the weight limits before the next round of the series at Valencia.
