A major piece of research has identified how quickly the manufacturers are reducing theCO2 emissions from their cars.
The research, undertaken by environmental website, Clean Green Cars, has found that average CO2 output from all cars on sale in the UK has only fallen by 0.3% in the last year, from 166 g/km to 165.5 g/km.
Interestingly, the best figure is not from Toyota, manufacturer of the Prius, but from Fiat, who make a lot of very small cars. In effectively joint second place are Peugeot and Citroen, who are well known as diesel specialists (diesel is particularly good for low CO2 emissions). Toyota is actually in fourth place, while the most improved manufacturer is Mini, whose emissions have fallen by 14% thanks to a range of new ultra-efficient engines.
