Spectators found guilty of throwing cans and other debris at Talladega following last weekend's Aaron's 499 will not be welcome at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS), the circuit has announced.
General manager Chris Powell has said that fans banned from Talladega as a result of Sunday's trash-throwing incident - sparked when Jeff Gordon won under yellow to move ahead of fan favourite Dale Earnhardt on the all-time wins list - will not be allowed to purchase tickets at LVMS. Talladega president Grant Lynch announced earlier this week that fans who threw debris have received a lifetime ban from the facility, and encouraged other NASCAR tracks to follow suit.
There is absolutely no place in our sport for that kind of behaviour, Powell said, First and foremost, it is a safety issue. Secondly, it reflects poorly on our sport and the millions of great racing fans across the country to have a few people act the way these individuals did on Sunday.
Grant and I have been friends for a long time, and I have a great deal of respect for what he is trying to do. I think we all have the best interest of our sport in mind in making this decision.
Powell said the ban would be indefinite and would apply to all events at LVMS, including drag racing, dirt racing and weekly racing events.
