An Introduction to Karting
Kart Racing is divided into a number of different chassis and kart engine types or classes which can sometimes be confusing to the newcomer. Some of the more known or popular Karting divisions are:-


Sprintkarts - Fixed gear (non gearbox) karts, used for International racing on tight tracks.
Gearbox karts or Road racing karts - used on the larger tracks, can be extremely fast.
Indoor Karting - mainly hire karts or restricted power racing.
Speedway Karting - race on speedway circuits, often on dirt, can be a great buzzzzzz.

Probably the most popular World Wide, is Sprint kart racing which is mainly where this site will concentrate, however we will delve into Road/gear box karts as time permits. Two stroke engine sizes range from 100cc up to 250cc capacity, while Four stroke engines can range up to 14 hp or more depending on track rules.

Karting or Go-Kart Racing is the "High School of MotorSport".
To graduate into the world of high-tech motor racing and become successful you must gain the racing skills required and the best school for this is Karting.

Check out the histories of leading drivers in any form of MotorSport and you will discover that most of the best ones learned their skills in Karting before graduating into their chosen field of racing. This is particularly so in 'open wheeler' classes such as Formula 1 and Indy racing. Also many Nascar drivers have been through the learning curve of Go-kart racing.

Kart Racing is the best and cheapest "Family Oriented" form of MotorSport with driver ages starting at 7 years of age and continuing into their sixties. Karting also has the highest number of registered drivers of any class of MotorSport.[/b]
