From time to time people have asked me about the sport of drifting in T&T. The usually ask if we have cars like those seen on cable in T&T. Well, officially, what we now have is a start.
A new group has been formed known as the Drift World Order or DWO. Over the next few months, they will be putting together practice sessions at the Arima Race Club carpark which they have managed to officially secure as a venue. Although spectators are welcome, the meets will be geared towards drivers who want to learn how to drift their cars.
On Sunday 8th July 2007, the first practice session was held with a lovely turnout and 8 cars taking first slides on the course. Officials from TTASA and TTKA were on hand to view the event and make their recommendations. The event progressed smoothly with a very simple 3 turn course being used. Each driver came away with significant improvement and definitely inspired those on hand to come give it a try for the relatively small driving practice fee of TT$40 for unlimited runs. This price is expected to increase when official competition starts.
Sponsorship opportunity doors are wide open for banners, product displays, giveaways, event and coverage branding as the sport of drifting grows in T&T.
