According to recent reports, Porsche is developing a hybrid powertrain for its much- hyped Panamera saloon.
Although it's not due to be launched until 2009, we already know that this first Porsche four-door will be offered with a 400bhp 4.8 litre V8 engine and a 520bhp turbo range-topper.

However by 2012 Porsche is expected to introduce a 300bhp hybrid alternative using the same technology that?s eventually intended for the Cayenne SUV.

Unlike traditional hybrids, Porsche will rework the petrol V6 and electric motor allowing an eco-friendly Panamera to run emissions-free in town or generate an extra 100bhp burst for more urgent acceleration.
