It is rumoured that newly-purchased Aston Martin is considering a low-volume hypercar to rival the likes of the McLaren Mercedes SLR and, to a lesser extent, the Bugatti Veyron.
This high-performance coupe - which reports claim is codenamed DBX - would offer a 205mph top speed and be powered by a 700bhp 6.0 litre V12 engine. In theory, such a car would have a sub-three second nought to 60mph time and probably cost in excess of 300,000. It would be the spiritual successor to 'ultimate' Aston's of the past, like the 1986 Zagato which was designed to top 180mph.

There's no way of working out how much truth there is to these rumours, and it's hard to believe that Prodrive (Aston's very new owner) has got round to making any future product plans yet. Sadly history shows that developing a limited edition hypercar is a sure-fire way for sportscar makers to lose money - just look at Jaguar and the XJ220 - and that?s exactly what AM doesn't need right now. So perhaps some wishful thinking has gone on - but it would still be a seriously exciting machine.
