F1:Renault could struggle to retain the titles

Giancarlo Fisichella fears Renault could struggle to retain the World titles this season, amidst fierce competition from three rival teams.

Renault have struggled for pace in pre-season testing, more often than not finishing behind the Ferraris and McLarens on the timesheets.

However, BMW have also challenged the Anglo/French squad for supremacy - and they've often won.

The pre-season testing performance have led to Fisichella predicting a four-way fight for this year's World titles, which he believes could make it harder for Renault to claim the double for a third successive season.

"The car is good, eventually better than the R26," the Roman told the official F1 website.

"So the potential for winning is there, but my impression is that 2007 is not going to be a two-way battle between Ferrari and Renault, we could also have McLaren and BMW joining us in the podium fight.

"So to win eight races is a very optimistic thought."

Fisichella, though, does believe Renault enter the new season as "a title contender, though we must find a little bit more speed in the first couple of races.

"But much will depend on future developments mid season - and of how fast we can react to the improvements of the other teams."

Renault will struggle moreso because of Fisichella's inability to drive under pressure than the inadequacies of the car. This is a make or break year for Fisi, either he gets the job done and wins races or goes and looks for a job for 2008 at Spyker or Super Aguri.
