Aston Martin Racing team Larbre Competition has contracted three drivers for the 2007 Le Mans Series. Former FIA GT Champion Fabrizio Gollin has announced he will be taking part in the series, together with French driver Christophe Bouchut and Larbre Competition regular Gabriele Gardel.
Gollin signed an agreement to drive for Larbre in the La Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours last Thursday (15th February). The Italian is not unfamiliar with the Aston Martin DBR9 after driving another chassis in the FIA GT Championship in 2006 for Aston Martin Racing BMS.
For Gollin it is a return to Larbre after competing two races for the French squad in 2005, albeit in a Ferrari 550 Maranello at that point. At each of those races he shared the car with one of his team mates for 2007. During the Sebring 12 Hours Christophe Bouchut was in the car with Gollin, while Gabriele Gardel joined him at Silverstone for the FIA GT race.
After being confirmed by All-Inkl.com to race their Lamborghini Murcilago R-GT in the FIA GT Championship and doing the official testing work for the FIA GT3 European Championship, this deal means Christophe Bouchut will get a very busy year. The 40-year old French driver, who won Le Mans, FIA GT and Le Mans Series titles, will also drive for Larbre Competition at Le Mans. For now the only problem Bouchut seems to have are clashing dates for the Silverstone FIA GT and Valencia Le Mans Series races.
Swiss driver Gabriele Gardel will be back with the team he won the 2006 Le Mans Series GT1 title with. After also securing the FIA GT title in 2005 the Swiss is hoping to get his third GT1 title in a row, and with the strength and experience of his two team mates and the support of Aston Martin Racing he will have a decent chance of making it three-in-a-row. Gardel will do the entire Le Mans Series season and will also join the team for the Le Mans 24 Hours in June.
Larbre Competition has not yet announced the drivers for the second Aston Martin DBR9 to be entered in the Le Mans Series, but a confirmation is expected before the official Le Mans Series test at the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit.
