FIA boss Max Mosley has said it will be very difficult to replace Michael Schumacher as the director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association.

There is no standout candidate to fill the void left by the departure of the German driver who headed the body for 12 years, Mosley said in his new column for F1 Racing.

"Drivers representatives should make the effort to come to meetings when invited," Mosley wrote.

"Although its hard and often tedious work, their input is useful in certain areas.

"That is where Michael Schumacher scored so heavily.

"He was rational, professional and available.

"It is not obvious who can replace him."

Schumacher, who retired at the end of the 2006 season, is credited with advancing driver and track safety issues during his tenure.

The FIA boss acknowledged that the final decision on safety matters lay with his team of experts, but said that drivers' input would still be welcomed.

"We will always listen to drivers, but the decisions must be ours," wrote Mosley.

"And if we have to lose a race or two or a few licences to make the point, we will.

"It will be better for the sport in the long run.

"Of course, there are many areas where drivers' opinions are helpful, indeed essential; for example, over flag and light signals, pit entry and exit layouts, driver-to-driver conduct and so on.

"But highly technical matters to do with run-off-areas, crash barriers and car safety have moved beyond the drivers."

I think the closest to him would be Mark Webber in terms of 'off-track' issues...noone else i've seen has anywhere near the professionalism and technical ability of MS!
