What goes from 0 to 193 kph in 2.8 seconds? No, it's not the opening line of a questionable joke. The answer of course is the Red Bull Prototype - the X2010 - star of Gran Turismo 5. When Kazunori Yamauchi came to Red Bull Racing and asked Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey, to design a car without limitations for the release of GT5, Adrian's imagination went into overdrive. Watch the build of the Red Bull X2010 Prototype as Adrian's ideas leap off the drawing board into reality and watch Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel take it round our virtual track!
X2010 Car Specs:
* 3-litre V6 engine
* 15,000 rpm
* 1,483bhp
* 450kph
* 0-193kph in 2.8 seconds
The makers of Gran Turismo 5 asked for someone to build the ultimate race car, and Red Bull answered with the X2010 Protoype, developed with the help of Formula 1 stud Sebastian Vettel.
With more than 56 million units shipped worldwide, the award-winning Gran Turismo franchise is regarded as the best and most authentic driving simulator ever created. With its true-to-life graphics, authentic physics technology, and design, the game was every gearhead's wet dream. Gran Turismo 5 is the fifth version of the driving game and will be exclusively produced for Sony's PlayStation 3 console.
The game is slated to have more than 1000 licensed cars from the world's top manufacturers, and it will feature more than 20 tracks including famous circuits and city courses. The selection of tracks available include Laguna Seca, Trial Mountain, and Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans). There will also be features like the Dynamic Weather Changes system, Remote Racing feature, and a revamped Rally Mode. GT5 is undoubtedly the most anticipated game this year.
"The X2010 is something new, created from a ‘what-if' dream we have long held at Polyphony" -- Kazunori Yamauchi
During the stages of development, Polyphony Digital posed the simple question: ‘If you built the fastest racing car on land, one that throws aside all rules and regulations, what would that car look like, how would it perform and how would it feel to drive?" With the assistance of Red Bull Racing's technology, Polyphony Digital were able to produce the answer in the form of the X2010 Prototype, which will be playable in the game.
Red Bull's aerodynamics expert, Adrian Newey, performed the role of technical advisor on the X2010 Prototype project. Adrian is renowned in the motorsports world for designing championship winning cars. Throughout the X2010 design process by Polyphony, Adrian contributed his vast experience, as well as a pure, child-like technical curiosity. As a result, the completed X2010 Prototype became an extreme car, having a unique form and mechanism unlike any other racing car in history.
