Mercedes has scrapped the initial plans of launching their 2012 car in the 2011 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters.
"To race these cars early makes no senes. I don't think anyone will, there's no benefit for a manufacturer. With a new car it is normal to just do a test programme," said Mercedes Motorsport boss Norbert Haug to Autosport.
The DTM organisation has decided to allow 2012 specification cars to take part in the championship next year, although not being allowed to score championship points.
BMW announced earlier that they are not going to run their planned 2012 car in the DTM next year. Instead BMW are going to run their car in the German endurance series VLN, something Mercedes could be heading for as well.
