Lewis Hamilton took the pole position at Monza Saturday with a dramatic last lap run after the checkered flag had fallen nipping the first starting spot for Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix by only two-tenth’s of a second.

The pole for Hamilton ended what was almost a storybook day for Force India as Adrian Sutil who had held the provisional pole for the closing moments of the session. The news was bittersweet for the Force India team though as for the second Grand Prix in a row they will have a shot at victory and with Sutil’s teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi in eighth starting spot, Force India had their best qualifying session ever.

Kimi Raikkonen will carry the banner for the Ferrari team from third, Heikki Kovalainen in the second McLaren-Mercedes was fourth and the Rubens Barrichello in a Brawn was fifth.

Championship points leader Jensen Button was finally able to enjoy a decent qualifying session and will roll off sixth Sunday.

Giancarlo Fisichella’s day started terribly when he crashed his Ferrari in the final practice session. After repairs though he was able to return for the qualifying session and make it into Q2 before being knocked out. He’ll start 14th Sunday.

The Williams Toyota of Nico Rosberg and both BMW Sauber’s suffered mechanical problems during the session.
