To celebrate the continuous success of Renault in the Formula 1 World Championship with the 2005 Constructors' and Drivers' Championship titles, the 230 Renault F1 Team R26 version of Mgane Renaultsport lines up alongside the 225 and 225 Cup versions in the new 2006 range.

Fitted with an improved version of the acclaimed "Cup Chassis" and a unique (in its category) limited slip differential as standard to re-inforce cornering performance and dynamic rigidity, mated with an enhanced engine delivering 230 bhp, the Renault F1 Team version clearly has the means to deliver what it promises. Race-bred - street cred.

Performance is inherent in it's genes. Shod with distinctive lightweight 18" Anthracite spoked alloys displaying the red Brembo brake caliper, the Renault 230 F1 Team R26 version can easily be distinguished from it's stablemates thanks to Renault F1 Team detailing on the front /rear bumpers, roof and wings, a numbered plaque and an interior of similar intent.

The Renault F1 Team also featuring lightweight Recaro seats as standard as well as climate control, cruise control with speed limiter and a 60w single CD/MP3.

Limitations of a standard differential
The differential is one part of the system that transmits power from the engine into drive at the wheels. In a two-wheel-drive car, the drive is shared 50/50 between the two wheels.

Problem
However, when one wheel is on a more slippery section of road than the other (or in a tight bend) the car is unable to drive normally and power is wasted through the spinning/slipping wheel.

To avoid this phenomenon a limited slip differential is used
A limited-slip differential overcomes this by limiting the amount of drive sent to the wheel which has least grip, or may be slipping, to maintain momentum and stability.

For example, in a tight corner, if the inside wheel is starting to slip, power will be transferred mechanically to the outer wheel, allowing for more efficient cornering.

Advantages

Traction improvement. In bends, the driver can accelerate earlier, avoiding all wheelspin.
Safe and sure handling. There are no counter-effects because of the dual-strut front suspension which reduces the hub-level offset.
During strong braking, the differential stablises the car because it reacts before the ABS.
Compared to ESP/ASR, the torque is not lost, because the brakes are not activated.
Only the differential is changed internally and there are no specific service requirements.

On Mgane Renaultsport 230 Renault F1 Team R26, in the NDO gearbox, the HLSD is mechanical, with helicoidal gears. The satellites are parallel to the planetary gears.
