TRINIDAD and Tobagos first ever radio control model car competition sped off at Tacarigua with the Barbados representatives dominating the show.
The competition Where RC (Radio Control) Junkies Meet was hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Radio Control Club (TTRCC).
The event which was sponsored by Island Hobbies took place at the Eastern Regional Sports Complex two weekends ago.
Despite the inclement weather on Saturday, many die-hard professional racers came out in their numbers to compete against the visiting RC professionals from Barbados.
The Bajan contingent consisted of seven competitors from the Radio Operative Auto Racing and Barbados Radio Control Clubs.
The races, which involved nitro-modified and electric race cars painted in their authentic flourescent colours and designs, got going at 12.30 pm.
The competition started with heats in the Nitro-modified, Electric, Stock Class and Outlaw Race categories and climaxed with the finals.
Trinidad and Tobagos Jevaughn Layne copped first place in the Stock Final while Dennison Jurawan raced his way through the finals in both the Outlaw and Electric Finals.
In the first invitational event Jurawan again emerged champion while in the second, first place went to Andy Singh.
Bajans Ryan White and Ronald Braithwaite also left with trophies. White was able to hold on to second place in the first invitational event while Braithwaite copped second in the second.
White said after the competition that his fellow Barbadians enjoyed coming to Trinidad and Tobago and was looking forward to the locals coming over for their event.
TTRCCs President Randall Cheeks was pleased about Saturdays event and promised bigger and better events in the near future.
During the lunch break the hundreds of spectators gathered at the event were fortunate to witness a spectacular show which was put on by Island Hobbies.
There was also an air show featuring radio controlled helicopters and planes engaged in aerial aerobatics. Most of the toys were operated by George Tannous, owner of Island Hobbies.
