Mitsubishi will bring the 2008 Lancer Evolution to the United States before any other market even the automaker's homeland of Japan. The production sedan is based closely on the Mitsubishi Concept-X, and will be introduced in Japan in fall 2007 about six months after it arrives in America, reports the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper. That places the U.S. debut somewhere around late spring 2007 possibly at the New York Auto Show in April, or even a preview at the Detroit show in January. Mitsubishi hopes to sell around 50,000 Lancers next year in the 'States.

(yeah, this one)

You've got to love 'em: this bunch of mech-heads at Mitsubishi whose sole purpose in life is to make the world's best-handling all-wheel-drive car. They started out in 1992 with the first Lancer Evolution, and after nine generations, they have proved the theory of evolution. No four-door sedan can devour corners faster than the Evo. For the money, only the WRX STI comes close. In just one decade, the Evo has etched its way into international cult folklore and inspired a generation of Gran Turismo gamers.

So where do you go from there? How do you better the best? "That's simple," said Mitsubishi AWD guru Kaoru Sawase. "You build the Evo X."

With the Evo X, Mitsubishi has further optimized response time of the AYC unit and fitted a new active-braking system that automatically takes over when the AYC/ACD's grip levels have been compromised, supplying braking force independently to all four wheels and restricting slide and sideways movement.
What We Know: The 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X will be an all-new feature vehicle when it appears in early 2007. While the Lancer Evolution IX received a face-lift and some other minor changes when it went on sale this year, the Evo X will more or less be rebuilt from the ground up on a brand-new platform which it will share with the next-generation versions of the Chrysler PT Cruiser, Dodge Caliber, and even the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV. In addition to the new sheet metal on the outside, which is believed to greatly reduce the vehicle's weight, the 2007 Evo will get more power as well. Underneath the hood, the 2007 Lancer Evolution X will feature a slightly more powerful version of its turbocharged MIVEC 2.0-liter four-cylinder, with horsepower boosted past the 300 mark. This engine will be paired with a clutchless six-speed transmission that can be shifted manually via steering-wheel-mounted paddles.

I have some updated pics but I am having some trouble adding them to this page.[/img]

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is so strong that it will be carried over from the existing Evo IX. Mitsubishi's MIVEC turbocharged powerplant delivers only 280bhp - but in the UK market, the Evo X unit will be boosted to provide up to 350bhp.

Engine: 4B11T 2.0 4cyl turbo, 280bhp

0-60mph: 4.8 seconds

Top speed: 160mph (est)

Price: 35,000 (est)
