Okay fellas. Suggestions needed about struts (and inserts)/rear shocks.
What are the best, locally available struts (and inserts)/rear shocks for all models
of "box" (EX) Lancers.
With there popularity, pay attention to the RWD Lancer 1400 and Lancer 1800 GSR Turbo
for fast road use and Solodex?
'Hi-end' "coil-overs" etc. are included, but Solodex rules must be kept in mind also.
However 2nr bugets are important and that's where the emphasis should be.
If possible give some basic specs about spring-rates, for street use and for Solodex.
If nothing suitable is locally available, which foreign sources do you recommend?
BTW any other "anti-roll" bar specs, chassis mountings and other economical
suspension mods are welcome...
Different Street/Solodex 'alignment' settings, chassis setups and mods are useful too...
This way we can build a data-base for RWD 'box' Lancer handling for everyone.
Comments, diagrams, article links, pictures, suppliers and suggestions (everything) please _________________ Walk softly... and carry a BIG stick!

I'm using tokico gas in the back, the front has tokico oil. The back is stiffer than the front on uneven roads. I Suggest going all tokico gas if possible, I for one caould not find gas for the front.
Also, replacing all bushings on an aged car is a good idea, I did this and got rid of alot of play in the back, still have to do the front.
This may go without saying, but pre-load the bushings befor final tightening so as to avoid warping on lowering the car on it's wheels. _________________

Any idea what was the part number for rear Tokico 'gas' shocks? Cost?
Where did you get the bushings? Which ones? Cost? Phone number would help too.
If rear setup is stiffer than front, what did you do to compensate for that?
Alignment? / Tyre pressures? / Suspension mods?
Details, boi!... SPECIFIC DETAILS of setup! _________________ Walk softly... and carry a BIG stick! |

When I had mines, OEM springs and KYB shocks, (PAJ series) Dunlop Qualifiers 205's. IMHO then and now, perfect set-up for daily driver use and for times of "spirited" driving. Good all-round performance...and easy on the pocket too. _________________ www.ttonline.org

what can be done to stiffen up the vehicle?..in terms of shocks/spring etc..something simple..
like what other vehicle's shock/spring would work ?
do they sell a strut bar for the this vehicle?..
in terms of brakes...whats the most cost effective brake upgrade? |
Cost effective rwd Lancer GSR suspension upgrade... Cost effective = Cheap = Not too Performance Effective IMHO.
other vehicle's shocks/spring... Local models = Don't know... Foreign models = US Mitsubishi Starion...
Starion struts are 5-stud though, so that will require Starion rims (or similar) too.
strut bar... I got a used one for my GSR years ago. Don't know who has now.
cost effective brake upgrade... I'm going to use Evo Brembos ft & rr with Evo front rotors and GSR rear rotors...
Brembos require fabrication and special rims but that's what I want. I'm fedup of brake fade.
Alternative is US Starion front calipers & Master cylinder from US Main Dealer & rwd GSR rears.
Also want to use Galant Turbo independant rear suspension to improve adhesion and reduce oversteer.
I got this info from MLR's Alan Zini about his Lancer Turbo upgrades...
Alan Zini wrote: | KYB suspension is no longer available. The stuff I had was (like everyone elses) old Ralliart stuff from the Starion rally programme. You best option is to use either Starion front end stuff from the States or get them built by some one like Leda suspension here in the UK, OR graft on Nissan 200sx S13 front legs and hubs - I know someone that is doing it now (although he is a fabricator by trade!!)
The only Poly bushes available again, are all for Starion, so you can do all the front end no problem. Polyflex (or Superflex?) I think the company is called and they are based in Australia, (but have a UK importer).
Up to 250 bhp the stock (EX/Starion) clutch is fine. Not sure on the flywheel issue...
My wheels were Racing Sparco with +38 offset taken off a Nissan Skyline 33 GTS!!!!!! They needed 60mm (yes, sixty!) rear spacers and 30mm front... not ideal and loads of messing. Look for 4 stud 200sx wheels as a cheaper solution.
The brembos needed custom brackets, Starion 5 stud hubs and enough clearance to get the wheels on, which I had with my spacers. Without them they would not have cleared!!!
Rear brakes were totally stock apart from Mintex 1155 pads and braided (~stainless steel) lines. It all braked superbly...
