When I was welding for an international fabricator of dairy feed equipment I started wearing
earplugs on a regular basis granted we had 30 +/- welders going at one time along with the
grinders and all other accouterments so yes it was noisy but the reason I continued wearing
earplugs was while welding on a running gear one day a lovely piece of slag dropped off and
went straight into my ear. Not sure which was louder me cussing and screaming or the wax etc
boiling in my inner ear, chances of it happening? I don't know but have it happen once and
I'll send you a pair of plugs on me. |
OUCH!...

I used to work with an old timer in the HVAC industry who never wore safety gear.........his brilliant reasoning was this: if I wear eye protection (for example), I won't be so careful because I know my eyes are protected. THis will make me complacent and my reflexes will become slow...by not wearing eye protection, I have to be super fast to turn my head if refrigerant flies in my face.........
