OMV aiming for 3rd in championship
The OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally has every reason to be satisfied with the FIA World Rally Championship 2006 so far. Both drivers are in the top ten of the intermediate driver ranking Manfred Stohl in fifth and Henning Solberg in eighth place. In the manufacture ranking they are in the lead of the M2-teams since the beginning of the season. But now there is a new objective for the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team: to replace the Subaru works team in third place in the manufacture ranking until years end. Despite the fact that it is a premiere for the Austrian OMV duo in Turkey, the team wants to prove from October 12 to 15 that strategy and continuity pay off in rallying.
Slow average speed helps in unchartered territory
Manfred Stohl now faces the last premiere during his first complete season in the FIA World Rally Championship. There is only one run of the ones on the calendar during recent years that the 34-year-old OMV driver hasnt yet competed in the Rally of Turkey. But he nevertheless keeps his cool. His continuity and the chosen strategies have already payed off more than once during this year. Stohl: Each new rally is a challenge, of course. But I dont think that we will have any problems. Compared to Japan, where I also premiered this year, the stages in Turkey are rather slow. That helps to find your rhythm faster. Furthermore, the difference to the Cyprus Rally doesnt seem to be too big therefore a few WRC-points should be well possible. Still, more work will come Ilka Minors way. Says the co-driver of the OMV duo: A new rally means about 30 percent additional work since the pace notes have to be written completely new. So there are going to be very long nights during the recce.
Henning Solberg is ready to fight
Only a place among the top five in Turkey counts for Henning Solberg. Even more: the Norwegian of the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team wants to reach the podium for the first time in his career. He knows the Rally of Turkey but hardly remembers it. Last year he finished in eleventh overall place and had to wrestle serious problems at the end of day two. Solberg: I really dont remember it that well. But I like this rally and Im sure that I can be very fast there. Furthermore, Bozian-Racing promised me an excellently prepared car for Turkey. He feels sympathy for Sebastien Loeb who has broken his upper arm while mountain biking. Solberg: It is very sad. It is a pity that Seb (Loeb) cant compete in Turkey. I can very well imagine how he must feel. I broke a leg during a fun cart race in 1999. You just dont think that such a thing can happen so suddenly.
Higher goal in manufacture ranking
The OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team lies in fourth place in the manufacture ranking with 59 points. Which means that they are the best M2-team. But Bozian-Racing still isnt content. Now they want to put serious pressure on the Subaru World Rally Team, which stands at 79 points, during the last four runs. Statistics are definitely in favour of the OMV Team. During the eight rallies so far that both OMV Peugeot Norway and Subaru competed in, Manfred Stohl and Henning Solberg together scored 59 points. Subaru only won 52 points. Sometimes one has to aim for higher goals in order to motivate the whole team. Because of the regulation we mustnt change anything at the Peugeot 307 since the beginning of the season but the performance curve of Manfred (Stohl) and Henning (Solberg) is definitely in our favour. I am sure that we all together will make this work out , says OMV Peugeot Norway Team Manager Jacky Bozian.
351 SS-kilometres on 19 special stages
The Rally of Turkey will commence on Thursday, October 12 at 19.45 with a ceremonial start in Antalya. 351,01 special stage kilometres, divided into 19 special stages, are scheduled from Friday (13.10) to Sunday (15.10). The overall length of the rally measures 1.201,85 kilometres. The finish line will be crossed on Sunday at 13.06 (first car) in Kemer. (All particulars: local time Turkey)
This is Turkey
Area: 773.473 sq km; Population: 74.709.410 inhabitants; Population density: 97 people per sq km; Capital: Ankara (3.579.710 inhabitants); Turkey is a republic since 1923 and also became independet at that time. 97 percent of the country lie in Asia Minor.

The OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team can celebrate another great triumph. Manfred Stohl and Ilka Minor reached the podium at the Propecia Rally New Zealand, just like they had three weeks ago in Australia. The OMV duo held the attacking Citroen works team at bay during the final day. After 17 special stages the Austrians were 16,8 seconds in front of Xavier Pons (Spa) in the World-Championship-car of Sebastien Loeb and more than 40 seconds ahead of rally shooting star Dani Sordo (Spa). During the last kilometres Henning Solberg was able to secure one manufacture WRC point for the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team.
A very special experience
Manfred Stohl has already been counted among the best rally drivers in the world prior to this weekend. But his third place at the Rally New Zealand has once more proven the prowess of the 34-year-old OMV driver. Following more than 350 special stage kilomtres under the toughest conditions he left the works drivers of Citroen and Subaru in his wake. It was the fifth podium place in the career of OMV duo Stohl/Minor, the third already this year. Stohl: It is a very special experience. The more so since we beat very tough opponents and were able to confirm the success in Australia. The fight versus Pons and Sordo was a real challenge. Furthermore, the Rally New Zealand is one of my most favourite events. But we also had a lot of luck and, in the end, Jesus wanted us to make it. In the driver FIA World Rally Championship the OMV driver has now secured fifth place for good. 46 won points mean that he lies twelve points ahead of former World Champion Petter Solberg (Nor/Subaru). And fourth place is still within reach since he is only one point behind Dani Sordo. Stohl: We will do our all to overtake Sordo in Wales. We like the rally and are under no pressure whatsoever.
One point secured for manufacture WRC
Following his rollover on the second day, the aftereffects of which had cost over 16 minutes, Henning Solberg secured one point for the manufacture WRC by a spirited performance on the final day. The Norwegian OMV driver kept Brit Matthew Wilson (Ford Focus WRC) at bay despite brake problems. Solberg: We had a lot of bad luck and the slip cost us a top result. But it is no use crying over lost driver points. Now we will thoroughly prepare for Wales and make good these points at the seasons finale. The 33-year-old Scandinavian still lies in seventh place in the driver World Championship with 25 points to his account.
Bozian Racing best M2-Team
Bozian Racing, the team employed by the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team, was rejoicing. Already prior to the last run to the FIA World Rally Championship in Wales (December 1-3) the team cant be replaced as best M2-Team. Four podium places alone three of these in a row by Manfred Stohl (Mexico, Australia, New Zealand) and Henning Solberg (Turkey) confirmed their supremacy among the privateers. We are overjoyed. It was a fantastic season so far. Manfred and Henning have even exceeded our expectations. It is impressive how they have proven what the Peugeot 307 WRC is capable of , said a very happy Jackie Bozian, OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team Manager.
Grnholm corrects Australia-misadventure
Markus Grnholm has corrected his misadventure from three weeks ago. In Australia the Finnish Ford works driver had overturned and thus lost his chance for the title. In New Zealand he was once again in a league of his own. Following 2000, 2002 and 2003, Grnholm took his fourth victory in Kiwi Country. The second place by teammate Mikko Hirvonen (Fin) also meant that Ford has already won the manufacture WRC title prematurely. It is only the second one since 1979 in the history of the World Rally Championship.
Final standings after 17 special stages
01. Marcus Grnholm/Rautiainen (Fin) Ford Focus WRC 4:02:30,7 hrs.
02. Mikko Hirvonen /Lehtinen (Fin) Ford Focus WRC +56,0 sec.

04. Xavi Pons/Del Barrio (Spa) Citroen Xsara WRC +2:56,1 min.
05. Dani Sordo/Marti (Spa) Citroen Xsara WRC +3:20,7 min.
06. Petter Solberg/Mills (Nor) Subaru Impreza WRC +4:57,1 min.
07. Luis Perez Companc/Volta (RA) Ford Focus WRC +10:51,6 min.

Author of an excellent start, Manfred immediately took the 3rd position grabbing the 3rd best time in the three first stages of the event. The OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team has completed the most successful season in the history of rallying with a sensational result at the Wales Rally GB. Following Australia and New Zealand the OMV duo Manfred Stohl and Ilka Minor reached the podium for the third time in a row and the fourth time this year with second overall place. Thus Stohl also secured fourth place in the driver WRC 2006. Norwegian teammates Henning Solberg/Cato Menkerud finished the last run to the FIA World Rally Championship in eleventh place and take eighth place in the final WRC standings.
Great joy follows high tension
Manfred Stohl probably completed the best rally of his career at the seasons finale in Wales even though the 34-year-old OMV driver already has 110 WRC runs to his account. But in Wales, a rally tailor-made for Stohl, prowess and luck combined to turn this into the highlight of an incredible rally year. Second place behind Finnish works driver Marcus Grnholm means that he equalled his best result in the World Rally Championship so far, the second place in Cyprus in 2005. Stohl: This success is of much higher value, though, since Im only 1:35 minutes behind the winner. In Cuyprus it were over four minutes. Still, prior to the triumph tension was extremely high. You listen for each little noise that shouldnt be there on the last day. The gas foot trembles permanently. But you still have to be highly focussed in order to keep up the speed. After everything is over you need some time to realise what just has happened. Now the joy is overwhelming, of course. A privateer right among the works teams on the podium and it is not a dream but reality. Just like these three podium places in a row. In the driver WRC final standings he moved past Citroen-newcomer Dani Sordo (Spa) and completed the season in fourth place with 54 points.
The rally in fast motion
The Wales Rally GB began for Manfred Stohl with two third-best special stage times. At the end of day one he was in third place, just 22,3 seconds behind Petter Solberg (Nor/Subaru). During the second leg things heated up. In the morning the OMV driver overtook the Norwegian four-times-winner in Wales. But the latter countered the attack and moved past him one special stage later. At halftime the opponents for second place were only 0,1 seconds apart. On Saturday afternoon Stohl was able to expand his lead. Solberg hit a gate and damaged the steering of the Subaru. In the evening of day two Stohl lay 50 seconds in front of Solberg. The final day turned the tension up once again. The Norwegian came back with a best time on the first SS of the day. But already on SS 15 he dropped back again due to a spin. Once more the Austrian expanded his lead up to 53 seconds. Stohl tried to control speed and opponent and to minimise the risk. That is not easy given these slippery conditions. The basic speed still has to be there or youre in danger of going to slow and lose the race, explains the OMV driver. But the last two special stages posed no problems and Manfred Stohl and Ilka Minor were able to secure their place until the finish line.
Henning gave his best
The Wales Rally GB didnt go according to plan for Henning Solberg. The Norwegian of the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team already lost his chance for a top place on the first day. He slipped off the road, his car lay on its side and he lost almost four minutes. Following this Solberg put his foot down and managed to move up to eleventh overall place. In the WRC driver ranking he finishes the year in eighth place with 25 points. The best result in the career of the older brother of former World Champion Petter Solberg. Henning: It was important to us to win back our self-confidence after the slip. And there were several times I was very content with afterwards. But unfortunately we were too far behind. Therefore it was impossible to score points. But I still can be very satisfied with this season. The highlights were, of course, the podium place in Turkey and fourth place in Finland.
Not only a statistical success
It was the most successful season since their debut 34 years ago for Bozian Racing, the French tuning wizards of the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team. 88 points in the FIA manufacture WRC mean an average of 7,4 points per rally. Thus the M2-ranking was won in a superior fashion. Stohl scored in twelve out of 16 runs only surpassed by Grnholm with 14. A special highlight for Bozian Racing was the third place by Manfred Stohl in Australia since this rally also marked the 100th assignment of the French tuners in the World Rally Championship. It was an incredible year. We are very grateful to Manfred and Henning. They definitely have raised the worth of a private team. One has every reason to be content with five podium places. Our drivers really used the potential of the Peugeot 307 WRC to full capacity. Now we hope to even improve the car for next year and, of course, that Manfred will be performing for us once more , explains Jackie Bozian, Team Manager of the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team. The podium places: 2nd place (1x): Stohl (Wales Rally GB), 3rd place (5x): Stohl (Mexico, Australia, New Zealand), H. Solberg (Turkey).
