Developments on Rally Jamaica 2006.

1. The logo is out, and has been for a while.
2. Mr. Endo is sending a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI with active diffs to compete in this year's event. Active diffs became standard on Evolution models VII and newer, so a VI with "actives" is definately something different!
3. Nine teams are confirmed from Barbados (I had mentioned 10 before).
4. John Powell will ship his Toyota Corolla WRC straight form the International Rallysprint in Barbados straight to Jamaica.
5. Macklin Peterkin has installed his Tommi Makinen roll cage in his new shape Impreza and is readying the car for the big event.
6. Marc Evans has had two shakedown events with his Evo 9: one rally at Frome and one sprint at Bog Walk. So far, so good.
7. Doug Gore seems to be falling back in times recorded at the sprint events as compared to the Ford Focus of Gary Gregg, as Jeffrey Panton seems to be getting closer.
8. The Miphone Suzuki Ignis has been unleashed and Tarik Minott has cleaned up in 2wd at the last sprint. There are now a bunch of Mitsubishi parts for sale on the internet. Whether the two incidents are somehow connected is up for speculation.
9. Digicel has now officially signed up with Rally Jamaica and is now the sponsor for the New Kingston Special Stages!!!
10. The Rally Jamaica organising committee headed by 5 time Chamion Organizer Larry Henriques has been busy doing behind the scenes work for the Petcom/Digicel Rally Jamaica 2006. Several meetings have been held with the Jamaica Tourist Board, Digicel, Petcom, the French Embassy (as it relates to the participation of Didier Auriol), Air Jamaica and other transport providers, Knutsford Express and others in an effort to make this event the best yet.
11. Kevin Proctor has made a verbal commitment to enter the event along with a number of other British nationals, as they thoroughly enjoyed the event last year and are keen to return to win the event, not just to make up numbers as aging men on a caribbean holiday.
12. Leslie Madden's new shape Subaru Imprezza is targeted for completion for this event.
13. Dave Lee's PLAZA AUTOSPORT prepared Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 has been cleared and has seen competition.
14. Junior Barnes has warned of something to come that has six sequential gears and over 300 hp, with torgue figures besting 250 lb. ft. Right now, I am not speculating as to what it may be.
15. Alan Chen & Jeremy Groves have been itching to enter rallying, and got some feel for it by sharing closing marshal duties on the Mandeville rally. Look for this pair to be as entertaining as the Bajan BMW and Escort Mark II of Still and Hamilton respectively. The only thing better for the RWD group in this event is if Geoffrey Ullyett in the Datsun 120y from Bim would make the trip as a competitor and be joined by our own Keith Saunders. If this happens, trust me, I will be a spectator on the event. There is no way that Ullette would be competing in Jamaica and I enter the event. No way Jose. I will have to be watching that event for sure!
16. Ainsley Lochan from Trinidad is expected to compete.
