Dutch sports car-maker Spyker is hoping to buy the Midland F1 team, formerly Jordan. Spyker is backed by the M-Consortium, which has sponsored F1 teams in the past. It has issued a statement saying "currently negotiations are taking place with the owner of Midland F1 with respect to a possible acquisition... the outcome of the negotiations is still depending on a number of conditions and circumstances."

Since its launch in 2000, Spyker has competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours and other sports car endurance races and with its upcoming Peking-Paris off-roader, it intends to contend the Dakar Rally, but buying Midland will put it into the most high-profile motorsport events of all.
