"Heavy Breathing!" That phrase can mean many different things to many different people. To some it conjures up thoughts of exercise and working out, to others it is the sound of killer as he approaches in a dark hallway on a Friday night horror flick, and to many of our members, it probably means a late night phone call to an overweight woman in a trailer park, that does a great valley girl voice. However, to this month's featured ride owner, Dave Hary, heavy breathing means two big turbochargers sucking massive amounts of air directly from the atmosphere.
Dave's ride is like no other. It has more custom parts than I can count, and it's bound to change before you even finish reading this. If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself at the next Hot Import Nights.
What started as a standard Audi S4, didn't remain that way for long. At first glance, the modifications that you immediately notice are the twin hood scoops on the one of a kind, custom VIS carbon fiber hood. The hood is a work of art, but the real treat is what lies inside. With the hood popped, your eyes are treated to a sea of chrome and technology. The first thing you'll see are the twin top mount, Biagio T04E turbos. The custom turbo manifolds were designed to position the inlets of each turbo, directly in line with those hood scoops, so the turbo inlets have unrestricted access to fresh cool atmosphere. Forced air is pushed from the turbos through a custom SMax front mount intercooler, then through a 3 inch custom intercooler charge pipe and into the ported and polished intake manifold. Twin Tial 44 mm wastegates and a Tial blowoff valve relieve any extra pressure in the system. Hot exhaust gases exit through custom downpipes and dump tubes that come out through vents in the RS4 Reiger front bumper. A factory ECU and Giac XR chip keep engine management parameters in check, while an Unorthodox lightweight flywheel and a Clutch Masters stage 4 clutch. I don't know about you, but the sound of open unrestricted turbos and un-muffled exhausts definitely sound better to me than phone fun with Connie the trailer park queen.
If looks could kill, this S4 would be a mass murderer. Reiger RS4 front and rear bumpers combined with ATP side skirts give it that low down look while a Reiger rear window wing and custom molded trunk wing complete the package. The car sits on 19" Avus AF901 wheels wrapped in Fusion 235/35-19 tires. H&R race springs and Koni adjustable shocks make sure that the car tracks true and sits low.
Now, if you haven't had enough with all of the exterior goodies, take a look at the inside. Dave is the owner of Design Tech, a shop in Union, NJ specializing in custom vehicle audio/visual installations, so he's spared no expenses on this S4. It has a custom grey suede headliner with an embossed Audi logo and features two 7-inch widescreen monitors molded into the factory sun visor locations. The factory seats have been wrapped in blue leather and grey suede. Each door panel has been modified to accommodate dual 6.5 inch Rockford Fosgate speakers and has been wrapped in grey suede as well. The rear deck has been modified to accommodate two 15-inch Rockford Fosgate T1 subwoofers. Finally, an Eclipse AVN 5495 head unit provides the beats and supplies the video feed.
