Yup, the GReddy e-Manage Ultimate is very popular with 2nrs; with very advanced features
usually only offered in "stand alone" ECUs. But is there a better alternative?
I always refer to the Xede "piggy back" engine management system as the best thing since
sliced bread. Now here's the proof! How does 357 WHP on 91 0ctane and 400 WHP on 100
Octane sound!
BTW they did add cams and exhaust... but this is on stock turbo, injectors and intercooler.
Project Evo Part V: Refining The Package... (Turbo mag - June '06.)
Pages 1 & 2: Components -
... * ChipTorque Xede "interceptor" ECU.
: _Control and "custom-tune" the following ECU functions... A/F ratio, Ignition and Boost etc.
... * Innovative LC-01 wideband O2 controller.
... * Bosch O2 sensor + down-pipe bung etc.
... * S.M.A.R.T. Software - "Real Time" A/F Ratio adjustment "on-the-fly." Better flexability and mileage!
... * Knock Box - Additional "real time" stand-alone "knock sensor"... Less electrical "noise"
... _more accurate, less "retarded" timing (pun intended )... more power... better milage
... * C-Reader - ODB-II Diagnostic Tool.
Page 3: Water Injection/Methanol Injection Module - Dyno-tested here.
: _ Full ECU control of any "stand alone" programmable Water/Methanol Injection System for detonation-control.
: _ Safer Tuning:- Detonation Control + Higher Boost = More Power.
Page 4: ... Also tested is XS Engineering's Power Pack Ignition Amplifier upgrade.
: _ Add-on "Induction" type for smoother idle and low-speed flexibility.
BTW it also comes with Launch Control and "No-Lift Shift" (WOT gear change.)
"Base maps" and upgrades are FREE!
Xede costs $9,000TT incl. shipping, duty & VAT. ($6,700TT if someone brings it for you.)
If what I was told about Autronics and Motec is true, that's almost (or ⅓) the cost of a
top-class "stand alone" system (@ $15,000-$18,000TT w/options)
Part B: coming soon...
Soon 4G63 2nrs will also have the chance to do the following...
... * XFlasher - Reflash ECU "base maps" (RPM limit, Speed-cut, Injector-scaling,
Radiator fan control etc.)
All this while being fully compatible with all the above modules.

For lack of a better name, we've been referring to it as the XFlasher...
The picture I posted is of a functional prototype designed specifically for the EVO 8-9. In addition to being a hand-held flash reader/writer, it is also a map storage device capable of holding multiple ROM files. The final version of the device will be a bit smaller, with a display, and a bit more buttons. This prototype unit is designed to interface with a laptop. The final version will function without any additional equipment. (sic. ~ no lap-top required.)
As for cost, nothing is final. Although we suspect it will be close to that of an XEDE. As for availability, we hope to have functional tester units in the hands of a few tuners within the next 2 months. With production units to come 1-2 months after that. That is the plan. But then again, you guys know how plans go at times. But hey, we're trying. There are a few functional bits that we can't really disclose at this time. But they should make people (especially XEDE and reflash users) very happy. But its safe to say that its a bit different from the other user-flashing systems currently available. Of course, there is only so many things you can do with the EVO ecu hardware so don't expect it to fill the same niche as the XEDE which is still going to be the better choice for self-tuners and max-power kind of guys who want all the extra features (SMART, NLS, logging, conditional protections, etc,.) By no means do we want to send out mixed messages about what the XFlasher can and can't do. It's not going to be a magical elixer. Nor is it the cure for the common cold. But we think it will fill a void that, by the results of the reflash poll we posted last week, hasn't gone unnoticed by the consumer.
The main design criteria of the XFlasher is so that reflash users can enjoy a similar degree of flexability and convenience as XEDE users We have also designed it so that those who already have ECU reflashes will find it to be a useful product to acquire. Of course, nothing is set in stone. Functional changes are bound to occur by the time we release the system to the public. We just wanted to give you guys an idea of what we've been hinting at for the last couple of months. |
So... is the ChipTorque Xede really the new King of the "Piggy-backs"?
I'm installing one in about six-to-seven weeks. (no laptop or XFlasher available for testing yet)
Gremlins to sort first... Housekeeping next... then laptop+Xede+more stuff...
"Test Results" and "Product Review" will be posted after. Then you be the Judge
