Okay so it's broadcasting on Zorce, but in secret in Daytona.
Talonted's buddy Allen decided to swtich from a nitrous system to turbo with his 1998 Honda CBR 900RR...

So I'll be documenting as progress goes on.. Hopefully Talonted would add on any details I may forget [hint hint].

The goal is to have it ready for racing at Deland race Track for Bike week (march2-11th)

So here's our starting point.

There was some other things to get done to Allen's bike before we get to the turbo part so in the meantime we're gonna turbo the "copper top" 900RR instead.. Use that set up for Allen's bike after..i.e. build all the manifold and thing for it on the other bike.. and swap after.

dis backyard ingenuity at it's greatest. This is a piece of the pine tree from said backyard that was cut prior to a hurricane threating a year and a half ago. Laughing I knew it would be good for something!

The long debated TURBO vs NITROUS.....

Nitrous kit : $650-$1100 depending on the configuration i.e. nitrous controller , bottle heater.
HP gain: 25-100HP depending on nitrous and fuel jet selected.
Bottle refill : $30 (never ending - Trust me I've spent a lot of money on nitrous refills)
Nitrous works really well and is safe when properly tuned.
However, nitrous's application of instant power is definately a shock and harder on the bearings, rods & your entire rotating assembly compared to a turbo system.

Turbo System: Avg $3500 - $5500 complete system for sport bikes, depending on turbo charger choice i.e. ball bearing, dual ball bearing. Some of them get exotic with Billit intake plenums.
HP gain: 70-140HP at the rear wheel.

On stock motor in '04-'06 Suzuki GSXR 1000, 240 rear wheel HP is very common. These bikes are fuel injected and these systems commonly come with upgraded injectors and a trick Billit aluminum rising rate fuel pressure regulator. Then the tuner can tune via laptop with Dyno Jet's Power Commander where he has control over timing and fuel. Power Commanders also work really well for nitrous for fine tuning with the use of a wide band air fuel system.

I like the turbo system because power is linear although can be violent. It's ALWAYS THERE! Doesnt need refilling! Laughing More $$ in the pocket. I have often pulled up next to Mustangs driving one of the Talons and asked the guy for a race and he said he ran out of Nitrous! Have any of you been in that situation? You got it but you don't got it.

This 900RR is carberated and a lil more challenging for tuning. We'd be using the Innovative LM-1 Wide Band System and by rejetting the carberators 10up on the jet size we're hoping that would put us in the ball park for 5psi which when further fine tuned we're shooting for mid 170HP at the rear wheel. Due to the age of the bike (1996) we're being really conservative on boost and tuning. We rather keep it on the richer side and give up some power for the extra durability. Altho we will add another advantage with the aid of VP C16 116 octane... Mr. Green Laughing

We'll do our best to load a sound clip too when we get her idling. Nothing sounds sweeter than a turbo with about a 6" downpipe with NO restrictions. Kinda sits there and whistles at idle. Also can't wait to hear the wastegate open up. Speaking of which I got to go build the dump tube to vent the wastegate gases under the bike.. Gonna get back to work dere..

In the years of owning my Dyno I've seen and dynoed lots of nitrous applications and have seen turbo consistantly average 50 more HP. However turbo AND nitrous at the same time! That's another topic Mr. Green Twisted Evil
