Rally Presysal
April 30th, 2006
The Central Town of Preysal and Grand Couva shall host Rally Trinidad for the second Leg of the Drivers Championship on the 30th of April, 2006. The rally isnt named the snake run for nothing as cornering technique on the rolling gravel is the ultimate test for drivers. The newest stage on the TTRC calendar winds its way through approximately six kilometers of the Preysal hillside providing a stern test to both driver and navigator. Preysal is dramatic with its peaks and crests rising rapidly out of the Cane fields. Drivers must constantly thread the line between steep cliffs and gutters on either side of the narrowly winding road, We have redesigned the Seego Run and now with the Cane Cut the Spectator can see the entire run from on top of the Hill next to the pits, its all turns on the Seego as we are not going on the straight alone, A really Great Stage to view now.
The burning of the cane not only signals the start of harvest but also ignites the passion and fever in rally driver and spectator alike. They packed every sweeping corner and impossible 90 degree turns to catch a glimpse of their favorite driver on the 12th of March when the stage was first run,The four wheel drive vehicles seem to be vehicle of choice for racers of this sport as they are a magnificent sight in full flight with their skilled pilots and co pilots pushing their cars effortlessly and gracefully sideways on very loose gravel surfaces. The two wheel drive cars (mostly front wheel drive) have a harder time in the graceful dance but make up in sheer horsepower as their cars are not carrying an air restrictor attached and sealed on the turbo inlet housing as are the four wheel drive cars. The foreign used market must be thanked for the growth of motor sport in our island as access to fast; cheap and reliable cars are relatively easy.
Its a huge adrenalin sport that even a stock family car can be converted easily into a SAFE Rallycar with a little spare change. A popular and durable starter car is the Nissan Sunny B13 or B14 which you can pick up for about 20,000 TTD in the classified and another 18,000 TTD will get you racing seats, safety harness, roll cage, intercom, helmets, Tires and some foreign used wheels and shocks. Graphics make a huge difference to the looks of a car and quite easy to get done with the sky being the limit to the styles of artworks available: Then onto the starting line after some training on weekends from the TTRC Competition Department. It must be noted that all Newcomers to the sport will only allowed entry to the International Event in August after having run two events and certified as competent by the Competition Department to enter the event
The rally club promotes safe driving and will be making our pilots skills available to government organizations for training sessions on extreme car control as is required. This service will be also available to the average driver who wishes to improve his driving abilities as well.
Sponsors are now knocking on the doors of the sport to offer their help in the form of products and funds to campaign the cars for a year, this is in part because of the new legislation that was passed by government which allows the sponsors to get back 150% of the monies that they give to teams as a tax relief, which is great for all sporting activities.
Rallying has proven that involvement in Motorsport doesnt have to be a budget cruncher as in other forms of Motorsport, WANT TO BE PART OF THIS SPORT AND NEED HELP IN PREPARING A RALLYCAR! Just drop the TTRC an email, you are most welcome.
The entry list for Speed stage rallying is growing and 2006. The sport is set to move in leaps and bounds literally. Teams are honing their skills and are preparing their high powered cars early in the season to get in as much practice as possible to be ready for the expected invasion of foreign cars from Barbados, Jamaica and St Vincent that will be coming to compete in the International Stages Rally in August.
On the last race the competition was extremely keen in both the 2WD and the 4WD category with just seconds separating first & second place cars.
Set to make their return in the April Stage will be the return of Vishal Dhanraj / Kevin Mohammed in the EX Rallymac Group A Subaru, this team is stepping up from the 2WD class and should have a competitive showing in their debut run in a 4WD machine. Surprise ! Surprise ! The Team of Darrel Ramesar/ Anand Awai is making their return after a disastrous 2005 season in which they retire on every event with some major problems, They have just purchased an EVO3 and are prepping the car for competition but guess what ? FWD EVO3!!! YES you read right FWD. Best of luck to this team; I think they will be spending some time in 2WD and develop their skills to make a return to 4WD next Year.
Scrutineering will be as usual at BF Goodrich Compound on Wrightson Road next to Crowne Plaza Car 0 due at 6.00 PM.
Fourteen cars are set to take the starters countdown on the picturesque Snake and Seego. Spectators have confirmed that it is the best Rally Stage we have as the visibility is great for those lucky enough to get to the right vantage points.
10 Stages will be run: 5 Snake and 5 Seego .
Spectators are asked to be early as the stage will be closed for entry at 9.45 am sharp.
FREE ENTRY !!!!!
Giveaways at the prize function right after the final stage will include Rallyclub T shirts, dont forget to collect you free ticket for the giveaways as you enter the Stage.
DIRECTIONS
Heading south, take a left on top the Couva Flyover. Head East for about mile and you will see the sign for entering the stage; if you are late then turn left at the Supermarket and look for the TTRC Stage Signs that will lead you to the best view points.
WHEN MOTORSPORT GETS TOUGH THEY CALL IT RALLYING !
SEE YOU THEN!
