Good news, crix... but don't you have AYC? Here's how to check...
Sanctifier wrote: | No need to wonder about it... bend down and look underneath.
If your diff is a fairly big alloy lump (non-magnetic)... it's an AYC.
If your diff is a smaller cast-iron lump (magnetic)... it's a clutch-type LSD.
BTW other hints...
RS/RS2s have no rear windscreen wiper...
RS/RS2s have no climate control (little dashboard screen)... A/C control is a rotary knob. |

ok chassis code is rs2 thats how mr pinherio and i figured it out.. also the fact that the turbo is a 16g hra 9.8t. that was the hint to check the chassis code.
the rs2 from my understaning does come with ayc and a rs turbo and it came with alll teh luxury features as teh gsr

The new car's transmission is were most of the changes took place. The fully equipped GSR/RS-2 version sports a TorSen front and an Active Yaw Control rear differential as previously but the center differential is now an "active" ACD differential that varies its locking characteristic according to inputs from accelerometers and other sensors. One typical "active" strategy it applies is to stiffen its locking when the car starts negotiating a corner (the braking phase) allowing for maximum deceleration, loosen the locking to negotiate the turn-in phase, stiffen a bit mid-corner allowing more torque to the rear in order to turn more easily and stiffen even more while exiting the corner to provide the maximum grip and acceleration. _________________ May your arse lock up like a vise grip when you shift at 9000rpm - HondaHo |

^ ^ ^ Hi Dave. I'm adding to an OLD thread but this should help to identify which diff your Evo has...
As a general rule, here's the alloy AYC rear diff used in GSR and MR models...
And here's the cast-iron clutch-type rear LSD from RS and Evo 6 RS2 models...
It seems that the Evo 7 RS2 and Evo 8 RS2 does have a rear AYC... as well as the ACD found in "late" Evo 7 through Evo 9 models.
Sanctifier wrote: | FYI the all-alloy AYC is a pretty big lump, while the clutch-type LSD is almost 66% narrower.
Although there is some confusion about the rear diff fitment in Evo 7RS2 and Evo 8 RS2, a visual inspection should clear up the confusion very quickly.
All alloy rear diffs will be AYC and will have an ACD/AYC pump, reservoir and auxilliary ECU...
All cast-iron rear diffs are clutch-type LSDs and don't have AYC (rear side-to-side) torque-transfer.
The cast-iron, clutch-type LSD is stronger... and as a general rule is the 1st choice for circuit and AutoX competition use. |

^ ^ ^ Yup, that and the GT's Bilsteins are the main reasons why it's the only model of E7-E9 that I like.
If it was 286 lbs. lighter and 13/4" lower then it would be nearly perfect... just like an Evo 6 RS. _________________ Walk softly... and carry a BIG stick!

... but aren't they all? It's just that an Evo is one of the few "generics" that gives a "broke" novice like me, the chance to own Porsche or Ferrari-type performance. IMHO a true "poor man's supercar."
Don't know about you, my friend... but it's the little things, like finding out more about my car's lineage or specs that adds to my enjoyment of this crazy, too expensive hobby.

The Evo series is one of the greatest lines ever to emerge IMO
Supercar performance AND room for your three best friends, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND room for a few cases of Stag!!!
If I had my way, I'd have an Evo IV and VII in my garage _________________

^ ^ ^ GOOD GOD! I can't believe that you actually admitted to liking TWO JDM cars.
...but you should make that an Evo 6 TME RS2... and an Evo IX GT. _________________ Walk softly... and carry a BIG stick! |
