ECU remapping (tuning)
When we remap an ECU we are basically fine tuning the program that deals with engine performance. As well as producing greater power and torque we also deal with drivability problems at lower rev ranges such as flat spots and hesitation issues giving the engine more initial torque making a more responsive and enjoyable drive.
In one of the web sites there mention that cars built after 1999 this can be done..So does that mean the older pugs cannot have their ECU remapped?
If it can be done, or should it not be done on pugs at all? or what brand of products can be used on Pugs? |

ECU remapping can be done on any ECU....eg:"SuperChips" ECU remapping is limited unless u have a high performance car to start with...if u have a domestic that was modified like crazy then u don't want a "superchip" at all...what u want is really stand-alone engine management as your ECU re-mapping will not compensate for everything. If your car is out in foreign where the ECU remapping shop can have your car on their dyno & run the programs on it real time then u will get more out of it but it is better to invest in engine management because that is where the real tuning is today. Engine management systems cost a bit but u can take the same unit from car to car cause they are modular units. As far as doing it on pugs...i think it makes no sense cause u will not get much from it as most pugs are not very powerful to start with. As u make exhaust upgrades & others th chip will not compensate for higher egt's & all the other related issues with turbo charging a naturally aspirated vehicle. |
