Peugeot Ecosse are no strangers to Max Power, having built all manner of trick French Pug-mobiles. But they seemed to be pushing their luck when they announced that they were building a 306 Sedan.
But Peugeot Ecosse had a plan: to rid the Sedan of its rear doors, to move the B-pillars rearwards and to graft in the longer doors and the rear side windows from a hatchback 306. So that`s what they did.
After the shock of seeing a two-door Sedan, you might forget to check out the Esquiss bodykit and bonnet, the funky mirrors, the Evo spoiler and the smoothed-out boot lid. But don`t because they all add to the effect.
And don`t ignore the motor either; a 350bhp tuned 405 T16 engine that pushed the Sedan along at 155mph and got it from standstill to 60mph in under six seconds. The six-speed gearbox helped there - the Sedan was quicker from 100-150mph than a Ferrari 355.
Inside, the detailing was just beautiful. No other word for it. Where that dull old rear seat used to be in went chequer plating, with speakers in the middle, and amps bolted to the floor. A one-off centre console held a Spa digital boost and temperature gauge and a Racelogic launch control, and the technology was matched in front of the driver with a Stack ST8130 dash display built into a custom surround.
When a car is this good, the world seems a special place. And when that car started out as an unwanted ugly - well, that`s just too good to be true.
