Peugeot has released details about the second concept vehicle its planning for next months Paris Motor Show, the first being the previous RC hybrid GT concept. The latest study is the all-new Prologue Concept but unlike the RC, which is unlikely to enter production anytime soon, this one is preview of the upcoming 3008 compact crossover vehicle expected to be launched next year.
The Prologue draws obvious styling cues from the French carmakers current SUV and minivan offerings, including the more recent 4007 SUV. Trademark features include the egg-crate grille and pronounced nose.
Other than these official images, not much else has been revealed about the new concept. The only other details is that the Prologue is powered by a hybrid powertrain developed a peak output of 200hp (147kW) and emitting just 109g of CO2 per km. The vehicle also has a short electric-only driving mode but range and speeds are still unknown.

Peugeot Qashqai getting in shape
The Qashqai had better watch out! Peugeot has confirmed a model based on its Prologue concept, seen at this years Paris Motor Show, will go on sale here by the end of 2009.
Its codenamed the T84 and is likely to be called the 3008 when it hits showrooms. The SUV/hatchback crossover will be the first model to take the fight directly to Nissans smash-hit Qashqai.
Two-wheel-drive variants of the 3008 go on sale next year, with a choice of petrol or diesel power. And in 2011, an all-wheel-drive diesel-electric hybrid will join the line-up.
Peugeot anticipates the latter will have a power output of 197bhp, with CO2 emissions of 109g/km. Prices for the 3008 range are set carry a premium of about 1,000 over the equivalent 308 hatchback models. Further details are set to be revealed at the official unveiling early next year.
However, thats not all Peugeot has in store. Our sources say the company is also readying an all-new seven-seat MPV, based on the same platform. This is due to appear in showrooms in 2010.

Peugeot 3008 spied without camouflage
This is likely going to be how the production model will look, coming so close to the Geneva Motor Show next March, where Peugeot has said it will unveil the new 3008 compact SUV.
The 3008 will take its spot as a compact crossover/SUV one segment beneath its bigger brother the 4007 and will compete with the slate of compact SUVs on the market right now such as the Ford Kuga, the VW Tiguan and the Nissan Qashqai.
When Peugeot premiered this vehicle as the Prologue Concept at the Paris Motor Show earlier this year, it made a point of highlighting its latest hybrid technology which will be featured in the 3008. Peugeot calls it HYmotion4, one of the first diesel hybrids currently in development.
HYmotion4 features the whole bag of tricks for better fuel economy. Marrying the economy of a diesel with regenerative breaking to power an electric motor, as well as stop-start technology, that gets this SUV down to a mileage of 4.1 liters per 100 km (57.3 mpg).
The 3008 HYmotion4 is powered by Peugeot's 2.0 liter HDI FAP (particle filter) which pumps out 163 hp and 200 Nm of torque. The diesel powers the front wheels while the electric motor (a 36 hp with 200 Nm of torque) drives the rear axle.
The car, based on the Peugeot 308, will also come with the standard array of Peugeot engines available for that vehicle too.
The 3008 is scheduled to hit the market in 2010.
