How to install from rear drum brakes to disc brakes..
1. (above and below) Begin your rear disc brake conversion by removing the old, worn-out drum brakes, which we have already accomplished here. Also, remove the axle shafts and fit them with longer lug studs in order to clear the brake rotor
2. The restudded axle shaft is installed as shown above. This is a good time to install new axle seals and bearings. Lubricate the axle seal with wheel-bearing grease or axle lube
3. (above and below) Next, install the two halves of the brake mounting bracket. Make sure you fit them in the correct spot over the axle bearing.
4. Mount the dust shield next, anchoring it to the brake mounting bracket. Both dust shields should be pointed toward the front of the vehicle
5. (above and below) Both brake caliper mounting brackets are positioned where the caliper sits at 10 o'clock (right side) or two o'clock (left side). Spacers are installed first, followed by the brackets
6. Install the parking-brake-cable bracket as shown above, angled toward the front of the vehicle.
7. Before installation,(above) clean both brake rotors with solvent to remove any preservative. It is a good idea to use brake-cleaning solvent because it evaporates quickly.
8. Install the brake rotor spacer on the axle hub.
9. Then install the rotor
10. Next, fit the caliper into place, and install and tighten the bolts from behind the brake.
11. Flexible brake hoses are used on the new Stainless Steel Brakes rear disc brake kit. A copper washer goes on both sides of the union at the caliper.
12. The parking-brake cable is installed like this--not always an easy task. We used the drum-brake parking-brake cable. You may opt to install new parking-brake cables. Fill the master cylinder and bleed the brake calipers, beginning with the right rear brake.
13. The completed rear disc brake is completed. |
