RALLY MUD HOGS DAY !!!!!
That’s the only way to describe the STAG / NP ULTRA Speed Stages Rally Third Event of the year held yesterday at the now Famous Couva Preysal Location just off the highway.
Sunday Morning at about 3 am the rains came again and our showers of blessings turned into rivers of sorrow for our Drivers on Sunday.
John Powell’s WRC Corolla did not clear the port as expected and disappointingly was a no show on Sunday as well as Franklyn Seegobins Corolla FX which also got stuck on the port returning from the Rally Barbados.
The Jack & Jill Stages had to be cancelled as the exit after the Finish of run was impassable as several heavy Trucks had totally demolished that area the day before and now the rains added additional streams to our landscape. The ZigZag/ Indian Trail was shortened and only the ZigZag section was run, A Trucking Company in the Area decided that Caroni Roads are an ideal site to dump a derelict Trailer the day before the rally in the center of our stages route, we all had to run that section of the stage with caution as the kindly Cane Farmer with the Massy Fergusson plow could only help us move the Trailer a bit off the Road.
RUN we did on the very first stage, The surface was fair to fine with a bit of mud but no rain so it looked OK, The Castrol / Rallymac / Sweet TamBran EVO 6 driven by Barry Mckenzie was the first car on the line and the old saying was so true as he had to “cut track for Gouti to run” the Evo parted the mud and provided a path for the other cars to follow.
The two wheel drive cars had a most difficult day, Simon Rodriguez and Wesley Nandoo in the Corolla 1600 Turbo paid heavily for their inexperience on slippery surfaces with a high boosting car and found themselves needing the assistance of the Tow Truck to extricate the Rallycar on several occasions, so did the Stag / Ultra /Josef’s EVO 6 of Ainsley Lochan & Scott Sheppard, This team had a huge learning curve with the ECU (Engine Computer) Antilag unable to be switched off and this only added to the driving problems on Sundays slippery roads,
The 1800 GSR FWD Turbo Lancer of Rezan Mohammed / Arshad Mondro dominated their class and also eventually finished ahead of several 4WD Cars, an amazing performance for a newcomer to the sport of Speed Stage Rallying, James Harris and his new navigator also had a stellar performance and were second in the FWD class, he continues to improve steadily in the 2WD class and this young Competitor is also one to watch when he gets some more seat time and the reliability of his machine is improved.
The Listerine / Flowertime / Esso Subaru of Colin Khan /Richard Ramsingh were at the top of their game on Sunday this team has now shown their ability to run at the forefront of the 4WD section and were ahead of all other Rallycars with the exception of the Castrol / Rallymac / Sweet Tambran EVO 6 of the ONE OOT Team of Barry Mckenzie and Max Jallai who dominated every Stage with some excellent cane cutting and road development skills, the recently PMED tuned machine performed flawlessly and experienced showed with some exciting driving out of this team.
We Trinis like to play in the rain and it showed on Sunday, the Marshals stood their ground in pouring rain to ensure that the Stages were run off and the large spectator turnout told the tale of Fun in the Mud.
A very special thank you to the Marshals!!!!
Jackie, Roger, Uncle Lennox, Aunty Fairy, Dino, Barry, Yugesh, Sunil, Julie, Marcus, Suzette, Genevieve, Miguel, Kordel, Franklyn, Sheldon, Roshan and Vance and to the folks from Cadets: Mark, Isaac, Michael, Akeem, Jesse, Kyle and Saron. A job well done.
As usual Shams Curry Duck and Cassava was absolutely sumptuous.
