I recently did a engine job on my 306 (1.Cool and a friend of mine was telling me that the tappet adjustments had to be set on retard and I have to drive the vehicle like that for a while before I could set them back to the normal adjustments can anyone shed some light on this?

adjustments had to be set on retard???????

With friends like that who needs enemies. If it is a 1.8 most likely he cannot get the shims or does not know how to do it. If set too tight you will damage the seats and valves. get this sorted out or spend more money.

So basically I just have to re-adjust the tappets correctly?

You need to get someone who knows these engines to see if the shims are the correct thickness first. If the shims cannot be sourced at City motors then ziggs machine shop (or any other good machine shop) can make.
Work like that should only be done by a pug mechanic.

LionIron....it depends on what your intention is with the engine job eg: raw power all motor, forced induction turbo or charger, or NOS...each method here in my opinion requires good parts, patience & a decent cash flow....if u r talking about a regual stock engine job then the maths is much simpler......u need 2 specify which u r referring 2....as far as the brake upgrade goes...all u need is a good machine shop & u can use a stock setup from a skyline R32...bear in mind u must be running at least 17"rims or else this will never work....u then remove or borrow a front spindle from a pug like yours carry it to the machine shop, instruct them 2 re-drill holes in the bigger rotor to match with the spindle...try not to elongate existing holes if possible....also let them drill 4 small holes in the bigger rotor so it can be bolted to spindle like original & they will make the back plate so u can attach caliper to spindle & that's it basically...i did this with FTO brakes & it works great but the rotor must be centered proper 2 spindle or else u can get vibration when stopping....i may be selling my big brake setup for a total aftermarket kit cause as i go up in power my FTO brakes r still stock even though better so i need more stopping power...hope this helps,,,,anything u r not clear on don't hesitate 2 ask...by the way i dont know everything but i have tried alot & found a formula that works 4 pugs specifically...
