So we are coming up to another AutoSport Drag Racing finale on the 29th - 30th April, (depending on the Court judgement to be given on the 18th May).

And what are the main issues to be settled? Well the big guns all have their special battles going with Michael Douglas just 20 points ahead of Rishi Khanic, but Khanic has been the fastest man in local Drag Racing clocking 7.786 secs. at 167.92 mph in February and bouncing back in March with a personal best of 7.754 seconds. But one very dark horse in this race will be the very popular Hero Boodram who races the only Turbocharged V8 engine in this part of the world.

The battle for the fastest Rotary will finally see the two major contenders with all systems functioning and ready to face each other on the mile run.

And Jason Laing carried the record for the fastest Rotary at the end of 2005 clocking 9.058 secs. This was run on 11th December 2005.

But Sean Ready has bounced back and set the fastest Rotary-engine time for 2006 clocking 8.752 secs. at 152.54 mph. So who will come out king of the hill this time around? Stay tuned for when they meet on the 30th April.

In the 11-seconds Bracket there are the consistent performers who are all previous Bracket champions. Paul Chung and Brian Franco are currently tied on 280 at the top of the points-table, but just 20 points behind is the popular Dale Mayers with his Turbo Rotary who is one of two drivers in this bracket to have broken into the ten seconds bracket. Knocking on the door here are the likes of Larry Ragoobar, Christian Tam, Ronnie Lutchmansingh, Yancy Mohammed and Aaron Dowridge, who won the award for the fatstest-6-cylinder in 2005. Also in this group are the likes of Adesley Seales, Chris Juman and Jagdeo Seecharan who have all been touching the 11.00 seconds mark.

And they will all now have to contend with Andre Lewis who has made a boisterous return to competition with his American thunder machine, the very large and very powerful Dodge Charger. This is big, big weight of 4000lbs, big displacement with 440cu or 7040cc, big power with 900Hp with Nitrous. Clocking 10.80 seconds in February and returning to destroy his transmission on the line in March, he has successfully repaired this machine and recently clocked 10.61 seconds, so can he now claim bragging rights for being the fastest Street-car in T&T today?

Now they will also possibly see the likes of the original Rug-Doctor Kent Jacob with the V8 Cortina and Daryan Warner with his new Toyota Supra returning to jump into this battle.

From Grenada 6 cars coming

Special dial-up challenge for the female drivers
Erica - Castrol Turbo Starlet,
Christianne 300ZX Twin Turbo,
Genevive Mistubishi Turbo Mirage
Candace Nissan 200Sx Turbo

Coming back shortly with more info. on competitors in Brackets 12 15 seconds.

Great Performance Narend. I saw how you were so busy racing and taking pics. On Sat, you had to keep driving up in line then jumping out take pics and then jump back in and drive and so on, but you survived and finished the day. Congrats.

Thanks zaxxon1!!!

Here's the blow by blow:

The adventure started really from Saturday 29th, the practice/street car day. I got a measly two passes in and ran dismally. A 0.7 and 0.8 reaction time made it clear that I was not used to this new clutch (ACT 6-puck). I was having trouble gauging the lights and finding the sweet spot with my left foot.

>>>>Fast forward to raceday/Sunday.

3 practice passes and no dice, 0.7 rection, 0.6 but crap times like 15.6 because I kept messing up the 3rd gear shift... Arrrggghhhh. AND the gas light was on....

The clutch was now so violent that the car was now outrunning the deck and EQ which kept falling out and hitting my hand. This meant I had to push them back in as I ran through second gear and then try to nail third no matter how successful I was at quarter-mile audio installation. So I headed back to the pits and tried to mask them in pace with duct tape. No dice. it just wouldn't hold to the dash.

There was no way I could drive like this. I had to rip out everything. While I was at it I took out all the other crap that was in the car like the hydraulic jack, about 40 magazines, toolkit, tripod, camera bag and whatever else that made up around 150lbs of "ballast" Laughing

Then it was time for driver's breifing Shocked As announced over the P.A. system, 15s competition would start RIGHT AFTER. Yikes....

After the meeting, I headed out and quickly lined up with Darren Chung's 14s 1st Gen. I was allowed my final practice pass since I managed to line up with a car of a different bracket (thanks Darren) and whacked off a 0.5 reaction/2.2 60ft with a 15.008 E.T. FINALLY!!!! Now it was time for competition and my gas light was ON, BRIGHT. Gen and SR made their way to the line when...

The gas finally reached the line... I didn't want to lose points for missing driver's meeting by running off to the gas station and I needed the practice runs, so I called in some unleaded in some blue mountain bottles Laughing DaddyZORCE to the rescue!!!

Here's the filling in action:

This meet we had 7 cars in the 15s bracket. Dragaholic VTEC conk out so he olum, SR din get no sleep and Red Bull only had him seeing the red light (twice) Laughing Kevin in the Red Escort, a strong contender, took some licks from Genevive who was clocking some 0.5 reaction times and 2.3s 60ft launches (he backed off too much).

On my first pass against the Red Escort I lost even though I stepped off three times before the finish, breaking out at 14.8. I totally did not expect that breakout. In round 2, I was lined up with Genevive. This was a very close run as we both had good reaction times and 60 ft times. The deciding factor in this run was how much to back off as Gen's Mirage can run high 14s as well. In the end I took it by 0.1 sec.

I am not sure what happened with Tony Samaroo in the Evo7 but Vin's Black 3rd gen came out jus so jus so and started winning by intimidation Laughing People only red lighting when they next to him. So I figured I needed to sort that out Laughing

In Round 3, I finally got to line up against the 3rd Gen. I expected him to launch with me, run ahead and back off. He did just the opposite, it seems he figured that I was heading for a breakout and he stayed behind quite a bit. I stepped off and let him run up to my bumper, got back on the gas and took it at the finish. He ran a 0.6 reaction vs my 0.5 and a 2.3 60ft vs my 2.2. His e.t. was 15.144 and I ran a 15.117. Margin of victory at the finish was 0.07 seconds.

At this point, the 3rd gen had his first loss and everone else had two losses except me. So we both entered the finals with one loss each. On the first pass of our best in 3, we prestaged and staged and just before the lights went down the 3rd gen crept forward past the sensors. HE now had to roll back until the PS and S lights came back on. In effect though he had deep staged. I launched as usual and he cracked a red light at 0.493. I figured he had lost so I levelled X to the tune of 14.7, my best time for the day. 2G-1, 3G-0.

As fate would have it we lined up for our second pass and as soon as the tree started the 3 amber light sequence, I noticed my Pre-Stage lights came off! Apparently the clutch was engaging ever so slightly and the car was rolling forward... Shocked I had but one alternative. This situation meant that I was now deep staged and I would have to leave squarely on the green to ensure that I didn't red light. I didn't know if I could catch the 3Gen but there was no time to think about all that.

He cut a 0.7 reaction and I ended up at an appalling 1.0 reaction. However I managed to stick the launch and pull alongside after first gear.... WHAP!!! Second... I was pulling away. By third I was too far ahead and I looked back to see the 3rd Gen about 2 lengths behind so I let off. He ran up much quicker this time, too quick for my liking so I stomped on the gas again. Obviously, he had learnt from our pull in Round 3. Turbo lag is a bitch as he rocketed right alongside my door and (nnnnnNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!) we were side by side at the finish. I was certain he clipped it. I should not have stepped off so much!!!! Grrrrrr.

I cruised down the return lane thinking how that start line drama made confusion for me. I figured I'd be sure to shallow stage and keep the clutch pedal pressed to the floor and the win should come easily in the third pass. Alas, there was no third pass to come. They were handing me the trophy!!! (HuuuuuuHHHHHH?????)

Only the timeslip let me believe I had won by the thinnest of hairs! 0.006 was the margin of victory!!! Next thing I know Synergy video cam in my face, so I shook the trophy vigorously and gave them a thumbs up...

An exh-ZORCE-ting day, but more than worth it! (especially so since I hear I missed the best rave since the warehouse @ Pabloz Sat night sleep, the best secret weapon) Very Happy Shocked Cool
