Does your Evo "squeak" when going around a corner, or when reversing and turning?
Have you ever noticed that your Evo "fishtails" (often violently) when pushed hard in a corner?...
... and there was nothing you could do about it?...
... Even more "opposite lock" didn't help... It often made it worse??
Here's the answer... and if you ever noticed any of the above you better do the following NOW!
Does every Evo-owner regularly replace the fluid in the rear AYC differential?
Have some of you Evo-owners ever replaced the AYC fluid?
In earlier versions (Evo 4 to 6 GSR's) the AYC fluid was supposed to be changed
every 4,500 miles according to the Workshop Manual.
"It has been suggested that Mitsubishi may extend this service interval for the AYC
to 18,000 miles at a later date." - MLR
BTW failure to do this regularly will lead to premature wear, noisy daily use
and IMO maybe dangerous operation.
But how do you really service them and change the fluid???...
The simplest method is to take it to the Dealer and let them use their MUT II/III diagnostic unit.
This communicates with the AYC's ECU (behind the front dashboard/console) to open and
close the AYC pump's valves in the correct sequence to eliminate "air-bubbles" and ensure
trouble-free (squeakless) use.
There's only one small problem... The Dealer does not service "foreign used" (R.O.R.O) cars.
A manual method is available and it's possible to "Do-it-Yourself"...
if you know what you're doing... Now you do!...

Humm!... I think I'll definately stick with my RS's rear LSD instead, thank you very much!

This is the data for the Evo 4-6:
As far as substitute fluid, I don't know. It looks like good old...
Heavy duty Hypoid Gear-oil (API GL-5 or better) for the differential - '90' body or '80W'.
Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF SPII specs) for the Hydraulic system. *
and Vaseline for the "Oil-seal lips" ...
Never heard of specific "AYC Fluid" it may be the same ATF used in the system. (see above*.)
To be sure, register (free) with Mitsubishi Lancer Register (UK) and post a question in

Competition gears, especially dog-type gears – Cusco / KAAZ 80w-90
6 speed gearboxes – Castrol SMX-S 75/85fully synthetic or Cusco 75w-85
TRANSFER BOX Oils
Transfer box Evo 5/6 - Castrol Syntrax 75w-90
Transfer box Evo 7~9 – Castrol LS (LSD oil)
Special Note – some tuners/gear specialists, such as ShepTrans, strongly recommend the MMC official oil Diaqueen LSD Oil SAE 90 or for extreme use Motul PA90, but that Diaqueen is not readily available in the UK, Mitsi Dealers use Morris XEP80W/90 LSD Oil
Rear Diffs
GSR Rear diff (diff.section of AYC type – all GSR) – Castrol Syntrax75w-90 or Cusco / KAAZ 80w-90)
RS Rear diff (all RS, RS2, GT) – Castrol LS or: Cusco / KAAZ 80w-90 or Cusco 80w-140
AYC system
MMC Diaqueen only
SST Transmission – Evo X, R35 GTR, etc.
(these semi-automatic DSG type gearboxes need very special oils, as they are very susceptible to problems, especially when hot).
The normal recommendation for Evo X by MMC UK is SST F1 Diaqueen (when available)
