Helping Soldiers See:

Developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Radar Scope lets soldiers see through 12 inches of concrete to determine if someone is in a building. The device, which runs on AA batteries, is the size of a telephone handset and weighs just over a pound.

The soldier would hold the device up to a wall, and would be able to detect movements as minimal as breathing from inside the structure in a matter of seconds. The Radar Scope should be sent to troops in Iraq as early as this spring, and gives soldiers the ability to sense through a foot of concrete and 50 feet beyond that into a room.
