HKS Takes Top Honors in Car and Drivers 2005 Superfour Challenge

HKS' all-new Mitsubishi Evolution VIII RS piloted by Nobuteru Taniguchi dominated Car and Driver's second ever 2005 Superfour Challenge, with first place finishes in Fastest Overall, 0-60MPH time, 1/4mile time and Road Course time. Car and Driver's Superfour Challenge is an invitational event for various top aftermarket performance manufacturers and tuners in the United States to battle it out at Michigan International Speedway (MIS).

The challenge is broken up into two classes, front-wheel drive and rear-wheel/all-wheel drive. Each car is road tested by various Car and Driver editors and then taken to MIS where the cars are performance tested on the track. The cars start from a standstill where they accelerate to the entrance of MIS infield road course, once through the road course the cars hit the bank, enter a chicane and then accelerate to 140MPH (130MPH for front-wheel drive vehicles), and finally brake down to zero MPH. During each run, the cars are measured for various performance data including: 0-60MPH time, 1/4Mile time, Road Course Time, 100MPH-140MPH time, 140MPH-0MPH time and overall time. Each competitor is given five total runs.

The HKS Evolution VIII RS consistently out-ran the competition on each run and walked away with the fastest 0-60MPH time of 3.31sec, 1/4Mile time of 11.81sec @ 116.20MPH, Road Course time of 48.25sec and fastest overall time 102.90sec. The nearest competitor was three seconds slower overall. This was the second time HKS competed in Car and Driver's Superfour challenge. At the inaugural challenge held in 2003 HKS' GT2835 turbocharged Acura RSX Type-S took first place in the front-wheel drive class by over four seconds.
