Is it just us, or have brown-metallic cars become the new thing to build? Regardless of the off-toppic rhetorical question, we’re here to talk about a new Peugeot, specifically another hybrid model that has arrived sporting what the French carmaker usually calls a Sport Wagon (SW) body.
The 508 RXH is an all-road version of the regular 508 and sports the company’s new diesel-electricy hybrid powertrain. This 2.0-liter HDi-based unit was first introduced in the limited-production 3008 HYbrid4. The diesel-burning engine provides a total of 165 horsepower, with an additional 37 coming from an electric motor. This means that the vehicle offers a high level of driving safety, as it comes with four-wheel-drive.
The powertrain is also a breakthrough in CO2 emissions, as it only emits 109 grams per 100 kilometers, a figure that is about 30 percent better than a conventional engine of comparable size. There’s also a ZEV 100% electric mode where the car burns no fuel, but in regular conditions consumption is rated at 4.2 l/100km (70.6 mpg).
Peugeot 508 RXH features a raised suspension, and will come with distinctive LED lights incorporated in the front bumper. Peugeot also states the obvious when highlighting that the car will be a bit wider (wheel arch extensions) and distinctive colors.
Standard features will include Open & Go system, electric front seats, head up display, 18 inch wheels, a panoramic glass roof and the latest generation audio and satellite navigation unit.
No pricing information has been made available, nor do we know if this will be a limited-production model like the 3008 HYbrid4, but we can tell you that it will be shown in Frankfurt and will hit showrooms early next year.
