Trinidadian drag racing driver Oswald Stoute, piloting his rotary powered, second generation Mazda RX7, won first place in the ten seconds bracket at the Culturama International Drag Racing event at the St. James Raceway, Nevis, W.I.
Stoute and his team faced a number of problems, including engine problems and a shattered windshield at Saturday’s qualifying, but was able to return on Sunday after late night of engine work and replacing windshield.
The semi final round of competition saw Stoute competing against the Nevis champion driver, Reynaldo Chiverton in his turbocharged Honda Civic Coupe and St. Lucian Driver, Glenroy Ramjewattan in his V8 powered Ford Mustang.
Although both competitors had the ability to outperform Stoute’s vehicle, due to his still continuing engine problems, Stoute showed his experience by maintaining a consistent times, forcing the St. Lucian driver into a breakout.
Ramjewattan’s loss to Stoute meant that he had to face Ray Chiverton in the other semifinal run. Again, the St, Lucian driver went too fast for the class and had a break out run. However Ray Chiverton, in an effort to catch the St. Lucian Mustang suffered a serious mechanical failure and could make the call to the line for the final race in the class handing the class win to Oswald Stoute who only had to make a by run to secure the win. _________________ Livng life one day at a time
