Citroën's CEO of Asian operations, Gregoire Olivier, has confirmed the company has green-lighted the Metropolis concept.
Speaking with Automotive News China, Olivier stated "The Metropolis will happen - it will become a real car." He added, "The same styling elements will be used for a high-level Citroen car to be developed in China. We want to build up the premier line in China - the Metropolis is emblematic of our approach."
The Metropolis concept was based on the C6 and measured 5300mm long, 2000mm wide and 1400mm tall. Power was provided by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain which consisted of a 272 PS (200 kW / 268 bhp) 2.0-liter V6 petrol engine and a 55 PS (40 kW / 54 bhp) electric motor. This combination allowed the car to run on electricity alone (at low speed), on petrol alone (typical commuting), and on both together. In the latter mode, the engine and electric motor produced a combined 460 PS (345 kW / 454 hp) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque.
No word on when it will be launched, but the Metropolis will likely wear the DS9 moniker when it goes on sale.
