Well, some idiot lit a fire to clear his garden out in the village (four miles away) and it got out of control. As most of the few farmers, whose lands were in the path of the fire, are over 70 - and apparently no one else gives a crap - the fire has been allowed to work its way into the Harris valley, one mile as the crow flies (when he's sober) from my parents' home. My house is in the valley to the leeward of their home, so if they are in trouble, I'm next.

Wagonrunner agreed to come with me to see how bad the fire was. He did... it was.
(Thanks plenty lad. May you have many, hairy children. Hope you were capable of movement this morning. Laughing )

Sorry, no pics. Toting cutlass and water, not to mention Wagonrunner's hoe (something didn't sound too right there) up those slopes took enough out of me, to even consider "capturing picturesque moments"... like WR sliding down a 60 degree slope above me, complete with flailing cutlass... or him throwing a cutlass at me ("for me to catch") flipping it end over end as he did, so it came at me, whirling arse over titty, passing a couple inches in front my nose - he must have been upset about how I was using his hoe...

Thanks lad. (Just promise not to pelt tools at me Laughing ) On standby right now, waiting for the fire to reach close enough to Harris Road to access it. I would like to believe that Harris Road will act like a fire break and contain the fire.

^^
hope you beat it.
sorry again about the cutlass, all that exercise climbing had my arms tense.
on monday morning, got up, and found it painful to put hands on steering wheel, far less keep them there or try to turn the wheel.
Jeeves wasn't answering my calls so................... Embarassed

Laughing Laughing Laughing Hey! Too much information - for us at least... Kevin must be wide-eyed and drooling all over his keyboard, wondering what activities you were up to in the bush, to end up with painful arms the following morning... (awaits with dread the text message from said gentleman, asking when would be a good day to visit the estate... the only guy I know who buys hand-cream by the gallon... Laughing )

Seriously, I think you might agree with me that the fire would hardly likely jump Harris Road. If it veers North (not likely due to direction of prevailing winds) it could cross Gran Fond, due to the leaf litter on that road. If it crosses Anglais Road to the South (only possible with a falling burning tree) then we could still access it easily in the Harris River basin.

Wagonrunner, I have your gloves and cutlass... Do I pelt them in your general direction, or do we organize a pick-up point/"look-yuh-t'ing" lime? Laughing
