Nuttin tuh regret here...
Us here appreciate the value of lower cab-body ventilation... gaseous chatigne residue can kill... access to suitable transportation is fast becoming a problem for secret bread-nut pill poppers as air-conditioned cars with fully enclosed cabs predominate the roadways... and folks wonder why nowadays cars will sometimes just veer off the road and crash for no apparent reason? A 5E level blowout in a sealed environment is enough to temporarily numb the driver - a 7E has been known to blind people at close range - long enough for him to attempt to pick mangoes with a B14. (Flatulence odour can be measured using the E level - the amount of "e"s in the "Oh geed" response that follows that particular wind. Of course, this system can be affected by variables, thus a 3E level crack at 8 yards in the open on a windy day is arguably more powerful than a 5E at 3 feet in an air-conditioned car. However, the physical trauma has a direct correlation to the E level inflicted.)
Thus, floor venting is a safety feature in older cars. To risk the miasma rising high enough to escape through an open window is still a risk, as one's nose is only a few inches above window-sill height - not to mention the possibility of affecting pedestrian traffic close to the curb.

yuh just solved the "bad drive" theory. Should forward this to the media houses and transport commissioner post haste.
The Administration may recommend all vehicles now drive with their windows down, and charge persons for possession of a workign A/C, but it just may save lives.

(Ahem) ...On a more serious note, I replaced the distributor on the Kent (another Motorcraft) and all the sputtering headaches I was having (with the car, that is) are gone - a filthy combination of worn points first, then faulty vacuum advance. However, since I had put Betsy down as she wasn't behaving properly, I have neglected to pay the insurance... so Solodex tomorrow will have to go on without me. I don't know who will have to take last place in GS since I won't be there...

I understand. I too currently cannot drive the Lancer legally on the road due to lack of insurance (amongst other lackings)
