I had just come down from the "Saddle" and was passing in front of that new 'condo settlement' being built on the eastern side of the stretch after Moka (to the west is Haleland Park, right?), and almost creamed a road-crossing ar$e. At the end of the straight there is an area of gravel deposited on the outside lane of the corner. With the rain, water was flowing over the road at this point. A gray van (unmarked maxi taxi?) was parked on the inside of the corner, right on the apex.

I could see around the van on either side of it, saw no oncoming vehicles, and kept on going. I didn't realize this, but a passenger (probably a worker on the site) had alighted the van on the inside corner pavement, and was proceeding to cross the road from behind the van. As I was two and a half car lengths away from the van's rear, he appears from behind the van, signals for me to stop, and walks briskly across the road. (He mus' a thought it was a Michelin ad...) It was raining, so I wasn't pelting down the road, but the Viva was rolling nicely. As I saw him, I hit the brakes. I was on the edge of the gravel n' water soup, and the front brakes (same size as a 280c) did what they were told to do. I surfed towards the fool with the car starting to veer left (the same direction he was going), he starts to run, looking backwards at all that lovely chrome sliding up to his backside. I release the brakes when I am on the road verge, tyre-deep in soup, and the old Vauxhall then obeys the steering (one thing at a time, she's an old lady), which was pointing the other way in an attempt to correct the slide - sending me towards the van's rear. if the van driver's eyes opened any wider as he saw this heap of almost 40 year-old iron coming his way from the side, his lifted eyelids would have peeled off his scalp. The old girl (undoubtedly satisfied that everyone concerned was as scared as she initially was) straightened up and staidly went on her way, with me clinging onto the wheel. All this took place in less than 3 seconds.

I wasn't going fast enough to kill the fool, but the reason behind the post's title is that if I had hit him, I would have come out of the car and finished the job properly with a power handle. Evil or Very Mad
I know this act would not seem like proper nor acceptable behaviour, but it would be improper and unacceptable to have creatures like that running around, breeding freely and making more like itself to mingle and co-habituate with humanity.

What a crazy (and nicely written) story! I hear you, but still glad that no injuries were incurred all the same...
